San Francisco Nov, 27, 1903 My dear Mrs. Muir – At a meeting of the “Outdoor Art League” your husband name was brought up; as an authority on the Calaveras Big Trees, we had hear that he was out of the state, and our president suggested a note of inquiry be sent. I begged that privilege, on the grounds of an old friendship and it was granted, much to my delight. We are most anxious to know if he is at home, if not, just when he will be or if you can give us his present address, as we …

Mr. John Muir,
California,
Dear Sir:
Two of my children (sister of 25 years and brother of 24) visited California this year, and while in San Francisco heard a rumor of a proposed colony at Muir: possibly a colony in which you are interested. Can you give me information about it?
My family would like to live in a neighborhood or colony along with the "John Muir", and it is possible that we could in the not remote future arrange to transfer our home form this to that side of the continent. My son has just …

Dear Sir:-
One of the by-laws of the American Alpine Club (No.4) prescribes that "The Board of Directors shall XXXXXX consider names for Membership, and its approval shall be necessary before the names are submitted for election by the Club at large”. In view of the fast that the wide geographical dispersion of the members of the Board of Directors prevents frequent meetings of the Board and the consideration of candidates for membership it seems proper to Prof. Fay and the Philadelphia members of the Board to obtain the "approval" of the members of the Board …
