Dick has fixed the ditch so I can turn the water in and run it clear around the house and easily water all the plants. Ive done only the very easiest work, just putting the plants in the ground and watering them, and it dont tire me a bit. Its fine healthy work for me. Im feeling fine. Mrs Funk sweeps my shanty. Darling Helen,
I got into my old home yesterday morning & am a new man - another fellow altogether from the poor ghost of the late Grippe - & Groan days. Nothing like going up a canon. How delightfully reviving the snow-coold pine-sifte[d?] Sierra air. I'll be back home by the end of the week probably get the trade papers completed & then straight for thee.
My kindest regards to the Van Dykes Heaven protect you Darling -
John Muir

As I already mentioned there were sent to the care of Professor Balfour at the Botanic Gardens here in [illegible] last. I have repeatedly written to the Professor begging him to [favor?]

Dear Mr Marshall:
Ive been laid up with the Grippe most all winter - the 3d attack nearly made an end of me While my daughter Helen had a 4th attack of pneumoni[illegible] & I had to take her to the Mohave desert, near Daggett, where she is getting better. No end of trouble these last years, but I must not complain after so long & free a life.
Do you ever hear anything on the Hetch Hetchy?

Helen is getting better In less than a month after getting into her little camp cabin on the Mohave desert she gained 12 pounds. She likes the spacious grandeur of the desert scenery & has her favorite horse & dog, while the Van Dykes are excellent neighbors. Her address is Daggett, Cal.
