Daggett, Cal. May 12Dear PapaThe box you sent reached here in good condition and made me very happy. The sweet brier scents up my whole shanty and is so lovely. Most of the roses fell to pieces when I lifted them out - our desert air is too much for them I guess, but I got all their sweetness just the same and am saving the petals. I planted the little ice plants and hope they will grow. The ginger wafers were fine. Mary got into them first thingI received your letter day before yesterday and am glad to know …

Dear Sir;
I enclose a copy of my decision in the application Of San Francisco for the lake Eleanor and Hatch Hetehy resorvoir sites. I had expected to close this matter several days ago, but delayed from day to day to consider most carefully the conditions under which the grant should be made. It must he rememhered that the duty imposed Upon the Secretary of the Interior in acting on grants of this kind prevents him from considering merely the preservation of the park in its natural state, but he must, as wel consider what [illegible] will …

Dear Muir:
See these letters.
I've done everything I could to block Phelan's game, sending to the President, Garfield, and Pinchot letters from Bourne, Colby, Robinson & yourself, and backing them up. I fear that we have lost.
I go to the White House Conference next week.
How I'd like to see you again!
Faithfully yours,
Mr John Muir

We have had quite a storm. Yesterday afternoon it rained some here in the valley, and when the clouds lifted toward evening we saw that it had snowed on the mountains to the south.
