Catalonia, the autonomous region of Spain has seen an increase in secessionist sentiments in recent years. While the past inclination toward independence has been centered on economic autonomy and cultural identity, there has been a recent emphasis on political independence, particularly in the times of crisis. In this thesis. I analyze the relationship between the economic changes during the period of a crisis and the public opinion about the potential Catalan secession. This paper discusses the idea of using a multi narrative approach to teaching social studies and focuses on a presentation meant to bring about change among teachers. The presentation used to present at the Ohio Council for Social Studies Annual Conference in October of 2020 brings this concept to the forefront and provides practical ways in which teachers can implement this approach when teaching history. A multi-narrative approach focuses on combining and using multiple sources from multiple perspectives with the intention of creating a more inclusive story of how events played out. Albert Camus's The Plague establishes a mode of“literature as historical testimony”and demonstrates a profound shift in the relationship between history and narrative, and it implies that literature ( narrative) is inevitably embedded in history. Literature as a testimony to the Holocaust does not record the Holocaust but also offers a new perspective to understand it. This actualizes the transformation of history as it changes the nature of historical knowledge. James Buskirk is honored as the founding Dean of ORU’s Graduate School of Theology. A Master of Arts degree was already in place; Buskirk was tasked with establishing a Master of Divinity, a Doctor of Ministry, and a PhD in theology—each fully accredited. During his tenure, faculty and student numbers increased along with denominational diversity. The MDiv and DMin achieved accreditation. The PhD was not started, however, as Oral Roberts dealt with competing financial priorities. Roberts’ declared decision not to offer a PhD led to Buskirk’s departure. He remained on good terms personally with Roberts. Buskirk’s effect on others is …

This dissertation focuses on the constitutional politics of England, and then Britain’s, transatlantic empire in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, through the lens of Jamaica and New York. In those two colonies, as in the rest of the Atlantic empire, colonial elites and imperial authorities were in perpetual political conflict. In this dissertation, I explain why the conflict persisted without resolution. Historians, though they rarely answer this question, have described fundamental transatlantic clashes of interests, and I take these as my starting point. I argue that each side’s ideological and material interests interwove with and sustained one another, and were …

Entangled Revolutions: Cuba, Nicaragua, And The United States In The Cold War Caribbean, 1979-1990, Emily Snyder

“Entangled Revolutions” examines Cuba and Nicaragua’s revolutionary relationship with a sustained lens on institutions, ideology, gender, and local and international frames. My analysis first demonstrates how each revolution’s relationship with the other demanded, and produced, profound domestic and international effects. Nicaragua relied on Cuba for material support and technical expertise; Cuba looked to Nicaragua as a source of revolutionary radicalization. The United States crafted public diplomacy campaigns alongside the Contra insurgency in Nicaragua as it attempted to prevent “another Cuba.” Second, Cuban and Nicaraguan experiences of collaboration were heavily gendered. This thesis explores the political thought and activities of Sophie de Grouchy (1763-1822), author of Letters on Sympathy (1798) and wife of the philosophe and French Revolutionary the marquis de Condorcet. The chapters proceed chronologically and thematically. I begin by forwarding a new and earlier date for the drafting of Grouchy’s major treatise, Letters on Sympathy, and thus an original interpretation of this text. I argue that the central tenets of Grouchy’s philosophy, in particular her key argument that founds a knowledge of natural rights on the proper combination of sympathy and reason, were developed in response to her interest …
