When Lehi's Party Arrived In The Land, Did They Find Others There?, John L. Sorenson

A number of statements in the Book of Mormon text indicate the presence in Lehi’s promised land of peoples other than those descended from Lehi’s party. Reasons the topic is not addressed more explicitly in the record include a focus on the Nephites (and not on other people), a generic treatment of Lamanites, an a desire not to waste space on something obvious or insignificant. Clear evidence for the presence of others in substantial populations is present in the Book of Mormon. The demographic or cultural history of Lehi’s literal descendants must take into account these other groups.

Although the discipline of psychology, in its contemporary form, is only a century old, psychology's historical antecedents reach back to the beginnings of civilization. Whether defined as the study of the soul or the study of human faculties, as it was in earlier times, or as the study of consciousness, mind, or behavior, as it has been over the past hundred years, psychology has dealt with some of the fundamental questions and issues pertaining to the functions, processes, and mechanisms of human and animal nature.

I Hear A Rhapsody: A Reading Of The Republic Of Choice, Donald J. Herzog

Readers coming to another volume by Lawrence Friedman might well expect a tightly crafted legal history. But this book is quite different. It offers a sweeping account of the transformation of modern law, a synoptic overview of what is finally distinctive about our legal culture, even a broadbrushed portrait of Western individualism. It does so breathlessly, in prose style and velocity. It's sometimes an engaging read, sometimes a distressing one, but-and here's what really matters-never a persuasive one. Or, worse yet, when it is persuasive it's because of its poetic and ideological features, not any kind of rigorous analysis.

List Of Type Specimens In The Fish Collection At The Yale Peabody Museum, With A Brief History Of Ichthyology At Yale University, Jon Moore, Richard Boardman

All known type specimens in the fish collection of the Division of Vertebrate Zoology, Peabody Museum of Natural History published prior to 1991 are listed. There are a total of 925 specimens representing 190 nominal species including 159 holotypes, 2 lectotypes, 24 syntypes of 13 nominal species, and paratypes and paralectotypes of 65 nominal species now found in our collection. Most of these specimens were described by David S. Jordan, Louis L. Mowbray, Charles Breder, Albert E. Parr, James E. Morrow, and Alfred W. Ebeling. The large majority of specimens were formerly part of the Bingham Oceanographic Collection which was …
