A History Of Virginia In The Spanish-American War, Virginia Rowe Christian
A History Of Virginia In The Spanish-American War, Virginia Rowe Christian
Master's Theses
Half a century ago, on February 15,1898, the United States Battleship Maine was destroyed by a mysterious explosion as she lay peacefully at moorings in Havana Harbor. At the time, the sympathy of the United States citizens lay strongly with revolutionists in Cuba who were then attempting to secure their freedom from the galling yoke of Spanish rule. The episode of the Maine gave added impetus to the trend which was inevitably drawing the United States and Spain into a state of war and the final breach occurred on April 19,1898, when the United States government recognized the independence of …

A History Of The Telephone In The Midwest (1875-1920), Robert H. Christie
Student Work
The purpose of this study is to present in an orderly manner a history of the early telephone companies and, at the same time, give a semi-technical description of some of the early practices, procedures, and equipment developed and employed by the many telephone pioneers. The importance of the telephone on population growth, comparison of the telephone industry with other industries, or the importance of the telephone in helping to overcome the extremes of nature, as well as many other areas of study were necessarily omitted in order to keep the subject within reasonable limits. In the future, those areas …
Abraham Lincoln As A Political Moralist, Carl Willard Ruchte
Abraham Lincoln As A Political Moralist, Carl Willard Ruchte
Student Work
In the eighty-fourth year of this nation's independence, forces so complex in nature that even today they are only partially understood culinated in what then appeared to be an irreparable breach in the Union. During the dark days of the 1860's the future outlook for the Union was extremely foreboding. Victory for the Southern forces would have spelled disaster not only for the North but for the South as well, economically and strategically, as events of more recent days have demonstrated in graphic fashion.

50 Years Of Research At The North Platte Experiment Station, W. W. Burr, J. C. Adams
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The North Platte Experiment was established fifty years ago. So many changes have occurred since then that few people remember why research in dry land agriculture was started in Nebraska and other Great Plains states. In order to get a proper perspective, it may be well to consider some early history.
