The History Of Cokeville, Wyoming, Errol Jack Lloyd May 1970

The History Of Cokeville, Wyoming, Errol Jack Lloyd

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Cokeville, Wyoming, is situated at the confluence of the Bear River and Smiths Fork valleys in southwestern Wyoming. Settled in 1874, the Cokeville area has experienced much the same political, economic, and social developments typical of other small rural towns in the western United States; but it is unlike neighboring settlements in that it was not dominated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during its early growth.

Depending upon an agricultural economic base, Cokeville has been the center of the Lincoln County sheep industry since the early 1900's. Mining has played a minor part in the economy, …

Kansas Mennonites During World War I, Arlyn John Parish May 1968

Kansas Mennonites During World War I, Arlyn John Parish

Fort Hays Studies Series

The story of the Mennonites of Kansas during World War I has never been told. This account should be of interest both as an incident in general Mennonite history and as an episode in the social history of the United States, for it demonstrates many of the problems of incorporating a minority group into the broader society.

A History Of Bancroft, Nebraska, Donald Schnier Nov 1967

A History Of Bancroft, Nebraska, Donald Schnier

Student Work

In the mid-nineteenth century, the land from the Missouri River to the ninety-eighth meridian was the home of the Omaha Indians who had roamed the hills of northeast Nebraska since the seventeeth century. The march of the whites, however, had in 1854 pressured the tribe into ceding all their land in Nebraska with the exception of 300,000 acres which they retained in the northeast section of the state. this reservation bordered on the Logan valley in northeast Cuming County. The Logan Creek was surrounded by miles of rich prairie just as it had been for centuries. But all of this …
