A History Of The Latter-Day Saint Settlement Of Oakley, Idaho, Wayne R. Boothe
A History Of The Latter-Day Saint Settlement Of Oakley, Idaho, Wayne R. Boothe
Theses and Dissertations
Oakley is located in southern Idaho in the Goose Creek Valley, an area traversed by trappers and explorers who named the streams and left accounts of their experiences and travels. It was a rendezvous for Indians who went there to gather pine nuts and get wild game for their winter's meat.
An emigration trail was located south of Oakley, where thousands wended their way to California. Emigrants going to Oregon from the East branched off this trail at the City of Rocks and came down Birch Creek to the Rock Creek Stage Station, southeast of the present town of Twin …

The Manchester Guardian And The American Civil War, Robert Allen Schellenberg
The Manchester Guardian And The American Civil War, Robert Allen Schellenberg
Student Work
The attitude of important British newspapers such as The Times, Morning Post, and Saturday Review toward the American Civil War has, of course, been the subject of many articles and books. These newspapers served as the mouth-pieces for the aristocratic classes and represented one section of public opinion favoring the South. A little-known group of newspaprs fought for the side of the North. These were the local dailies, which, to a greater or lesser degree, reflected the attitude of their readers--workingmen. Among such newspapers were the Manchester Examiner, Liverpool Daily, Post, Birmingham Daily Post, Newcastle Chronicle, Leeds Mercury, Bradford Advertiser, …

Erasmus And Luther: Precursors Of A Mass Movement, Martha Reinmuth
Erasmus And Luther: Precursors Of A Mass Movement, Martha Reinmuth
Graduate Student Research Papers
In his book, The True Believer, Eric Hoffer, with Machiavellian detachment, sets forth a theory on the nature of mass movements. This paper will be primarily concerned with the aspect of Mr. Hoffer' s theory that deals with the setting of the stage for a mass movement--specifically, the temperament, needs, and motives of the men who perform this prerequisite act. Though many and influential were the contributions of other men to the preparation for the final act of church reform in the sixteenth century, it is generally conceded that Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther's names stand out in the boldest …
