Same-Sex Marriage : Right Or Wrong? Past, Present, And Future, Jessica Hannibal, Summer Snell
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
An exploration of different perspectives on homosexuality throughout history, starting from ancient Greek and Palestinian beliefs, continuing to modern day society. Causes of current beliefs on same-sex marriage are traced to homophobia and heterosexism and several court cases and laws are documented. The last segment of the paper suggests that current arguments regarding same-sex marriage negatively affect society by portraying homosexuals as different, and therefore unequal.

Man-Made Menopause, Madeline Horwitz
Man-Made Menopause, Madeline Horwitz
Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS)
In this study I suggest that there are three distinct time periods mark new developments in society’s understanding of menopause, Victorian America in the mid and late nineteenth century, mid-twentieth century America, and contemporary America. This is the case not only in terms of advances in biological science, but also the ways in which the medical establishment has viewed menopause has also changed, and in terms of changes in prevalent gender assumptions. In this paper I hope to expose the ways science, history, and society has medicalized menopause, and the ways in which menopause has been viewed by individual women, …

Zarathustra’S Preposterous History, Joel Westerdale
Zarathustra’S Preposterous History, Joel Westerdale
German Studies: Faculty Publications
What possible allure can a Persian prophet hold for a philhellenic philosopher? “Zarathus- tra’s Preposterous History” discusses the conspicuous heritage of Nietzsche’s figure, arguing that Nietzsche’s turn to Zoroaster itself functions as an instance of affirmation, the difficult affirmation of even that which must be overcome. The self-overcoming that structures Also sprach Zarathustra comes to characterize the figure of Zarathustra itself, both within this book and in Nietzsche’s later writings. But only through the preposterous imposition of this characteriz- ation can Nietzsche identify Zarathustra with Zoroaster and portray the moralist as the necess- ary precursor to the immoralist. Inverting chronology, …
Human Rights In Cuba, Susan Kemp
Human Rights In Cuba, Susan Kemp
Human Rights & Human Welfare
In 1959, Fidel Castro established a Cuban socialist state closely aligned with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union's collapse brought an end to Soviet economic support which, combined with the U.S. embargo, created an economic crisis in the early 1990s. The Cuban government's instability and desire to maintain control overrides the individual rights of its citizens. These events are the background for the lack of fundamental human rights in Cuba today.
Human Rights In El Salvador, Tait Robinson
Human Rights In El Salvador, Tait Robinson
Human Rights & Human Welfare
Between 1979 and 1991 El Salvador was embroiled in a civil war that claimed over 70,000 lives. Longstanding socio-economic inequality between the rich and poor led to government-backed human rights abuses dispensed by the military. These ranged from denials of freedom and civil liberties to village massacres.
