J.C. Denious: Public Servant And State Promoter Of Southwestern Kansas, Larry N. Lane Oct 1968

J.C. Denious: Public Servant And State Promoter Of Southwestern Kansas, Larry N. Lane

Fort Hays Studies Series

This biographical study is primarily concerned with the political, economic, and social activities and interests of Mr. Denious while he served in the capacity of State Senator and Lieutenant Governor. In the course of state growth and development, it is unfortunate that important contributions by certain dedicated public servants are little known or remembered. In a small way, it is the purpose of this study to help rectify this situation.

The Development Of Missouri Valley, Iowa To 1931, John W. Gard Aug 1968

The Development Of Missouri Valley, Iowa To 1931, John W. Gard

Student Work

Moreover, only a few white men had cast eye upon its valleys, inhabited only by Indians and wild animals. Probably the first explorers to set foot in the area were Lewis and Clark, who, in 1804, ordered their men to pitch camp just below the mouth of the Soldier River in what is now Harrison County. Reports of rich fur resources soon brought a number of trappers and hunters who undoubtedly followed the streams of the area …

United States Foreign Policy With The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1945-1959, Otis C. Moore Aug 1968

United States Foreign Policy With The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1945-1959, Otis C. Moore

Student Work

This thesis considers the changes in United States relations with the Soviet Union after World War II. In discussing the major events which shaped the changes in policy, I have not addressed the details of the events themselves, since each in itself is worthy of a complete volume. Instead, I have limited by discussion to the broad indicators of diplomatic policy changes which resulted from the events.

This paper has been written primarily to reveal the Japanese side of the Lansing-Ishii negotiations (or as it is referred to in Japan, the Ishii-Lansing negotiations). The Supreme Court And The People, Everett Mckinley Dirksen Mar 1968

The Supreme Court And The People, Everett Mckinley Dirksen

Michigan Law Review

There is only one circumstance, as I read the Constitution, which authorizes the federal government to intrude or interfere with the governmental structure of a state. That would occur under the provisions of section 4 of article IV, which, in pertinent part, state: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government .... " This was the question, if indeed there was a federal question, to be determined in the earlier Baker v. Carr and the reapportionment cases. To rely on the fourteenth amendment for authority to establish by judicial decree a new …
