New Deal Archaeology In The Southeast: Wpa, Tva, Nps, 1934-1942., Edwin Austin Lyon Ii
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study is a history of New Deal archaeology in the Southeastern United States from the Civil Works Administration (CWA) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) archaeological projects in the winter of 1933-1934 to the end of federal relief archaeology in 1942. The federal government selected archaeology as one of its relief programs to put to work some of the many unemployed Americans during the depression of the 1930s. This study focuses on the large Works Progress Administration (WPA) archaeological programs in Louisiana and Kentucky, the combined WPA and TVA programs in Alabama and Tennessee, and the WPA and National …

Concepts In American Local History: Community In Winder, Idaho, Lorine S. Goodwin
Concepts In American Local History: Community In Winder, Idaho, Lorine S. Goodwin
Theses and Dissertations
Recently the need for a more clearly defined structural basis for American local history has become acute. Concepts used in national history often fall short of the needs of local history. As a result, both professionals and amateurs are producing a rash of community histories without the benefit of adequate guidelines.
This thesis draws together a number of concepts useful in the development of American local history as a viable academic field of study. It tests these concepts in presenting the history of community in Winder, a small, rural population set in southeastern Idaho.

Landscape Architecture History: A Critical Review Of Its Curriculum And Teaching Methodology, Robert L. Marshall
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this thesis is to develop criteria for establishing an effective course in teaching history of landscape architecture. Believing that professors, students and practicing landscape architects all have justifiable concerns and comments as to the way history of landscape architecture should be taught, questionnaires were sent to each of these groups across the country. Based on the responses to the questionnaires, coupled with information gleaned from a review of literature and the author's personal teaching experiences, the course criteria is established.
The research showed that it is important that the instructor be able to select historic periods and …

Republicanism And The Law Of Inheritance In The American Revolutionary Era, Stanley N. Katz
Republicanism And The Law Of Inheritance In The American Revolutionary Era, Stanley N. Katz
Michigan Law Review
This Article deals with the history of the law of inheritance during the era of the American Revolution, but its focus is actually more general, for it ultimately seeks to determine what sort of revolution we experienced. For the historian the problem is quite familiar, but a few observations seem pertinent. It is at least possible to argue that our colonial forefathers were not waging a revolution at all. Rather, one might say they were fighting what we should now call a colonial war of independence in which the overriding issue was "home rule." On this hypothesis, the main slogan …
