The Major Studies On Vincent De Paul, Carey J. Leonard C.M. Apr 1985

The Major Studies On Vincent De Paul, Carey J. Leonard C.M.

Vincentian Studies

The real Vincent de Paul, versus the legendary one, was not known for several centuries because his communities restricted his writings to themselves. This article categorizes and critiques the major works on him. It begins with the four institutional biographies from before the twentieth century by Louis Abelly, Pierre Collet, Michel-Ulysse Maynard, and Louis-Victor-Emile Bougaud. Twentieth century works are then evaluated, starting with those of Pierre Coste. Historical studies of the Church and spirituality during and after Vincent’s time place him in social, political, and ecclesial context. Other efforts examine how his works and spirituality may be applied to contemporary …

Early Research On The Fibrous Microstructure Of Meat, H. J. Swatland Jan 1985

Early Research On The Fibrous Microstructure Of Meat, H. J. Swatland

Food Structure

The older scientific literature on the histology of skeletal muscle describes the trans verse fragmentation of myofibrils to form sarcomere disks and the attachment of Z lines to the sarcolemma in contracted muscle. These phenomena may now be explained by recent research on the cytoskeletal framework of muscle fibers, particularly desmin and vinculin. The formation of sa rcomere disks might be developed as a simple method to study cytoskeletal integrity in meat. In early research, contraction bands and the disappearance of transverse striations during contraction caused considerable confusion with ordinary light microscopy. These problems were largely resolved by the use …
