This study explores former foster youth’s perceptions and factors in pursuing higher education. Twelve participants provided insight on their experiences when in the foster care system that had impacted their pursuance of higher education. Many participants elaborated on their lives after aging out of the system, and how they navigated life as former foster youth. This was done through a self-paced audio recorded interview along with questions regarding demographics and information pertaining to the amount of time each individual spent in the foster care system.

Teaching efficacy is an important variable related to teaching behaviors, student achievement, and teachers' psychological behaviors; therefore, strategies to build teaching efficacy during preservice teacher preparation should be implemented. Team-based learning (TBL) has been used across a variety of disciplines in higher education, but it hasn't been explored in the preparation of elementary literacy teachers or in relation to teaching efficacy. In this study, TBL was implemented in an undergraduate reading methods course for one semester. This study investigated how biophilic design (nature-based design) optimizes one's well-being within a classroom learning environment. In this qualitative study, we investigated the social class worldviews of Chinese International Students (CIS) in the United States. Social class worldviews are a constellation of beliefs, attitudes, and values that individuals use to maintain a sense of psychological equilibrium within their perceived social class groups and culture. Having interviewed eleven CIS in a midwestern city in the United States, the researchers found that their experiences reflected five themes: (a) social class consciousness; (b) social class socialization; (c) social class resources; (d) social class values; and (e) social class challenges. Suggestions for research and implications for higher education are discussed.

Background: Service-learning is gaining recognition as a valuable pedagogy for students to gain both academic and psychosocial benefits.
