Female Leadership In Male-Dominated Organizations, Sue Dewine
Association for Communication Administration Bulletin
This article examines female leadership in male-dominated organizational cultures, particularly within the field of communication. It critiques common advice that encourages women to imitate masculine leadership models, arguing that such approaches create sterile environments and diminish the unique strengths women bring to leadership. The discussion reviews research on organizational culture and the influence of administrators in shaping departmental climates, highlighting persistent barriers faced by women in higher education. Evidence shows that female administrators often experience role conflict, isolation, and burnout, despite having skills comparable to male counterparts. Recommendations include embracing androgynous leadership traits, building professional networks, and promoting cultural change …

Modeling Institutional Production Of Higher Education, Robert C. Dolan, Robert M. Schmidt

This study examines the input-output relationship for private undergraduate education. The objective s to identify the relative contributions of human and physical resources in the production of quality undergraduate education. The research methods are noteworthy in three general respects. First, the theoretical orientation emphasized interdependence among inputs and outputs in higher education. The significance of simultaneity is demonstrated in an empirical model estimated via a three-stage least-squares technique. Second, the study introduces an original and promising data set for research in higher educational production. Of special note is an index of output reflecting the quantity and quality of institutional production. …

Use Of Interdisciplinary Education To Foster Familiarization Among Health Professionals, Linda Jean Laatsch-Lybeck, Linda Milson, Susan E. Zimmer
Clinical Lab Sciences Faculty Research and Publications
This paper describes a pilot interdisciplinary experience between the dental hygiene and medical technology programs at Marquette University. It was designed, in part, to familiarize dental hygiene students with the medical technology profession. Comments solicited from students on the final evaluation form indicated that this pilot project was highly successful and met the objectives. Affective, multiple-choice questions on pretests and posttests showed a positive change in attitude, but this change was not statistically significant. Possible reasons for this are discussed. Benefits of this pilot project were an improved understanding of medical technology on the part of the dental hygiene students, …
