This Article focuses on the issues that arise when students wish to attend a postsecondary institution accompanied by an animal. Part II begins by analyzing federal law applicable to students bringing service and assistance animals to campus. Part III explores the use of animal-assisted activities on campus. Part IV continues with an examination of policies allowing students to have companion animals in campus housing. Part V considers concerns administrators raise about allowing animals on campus. Message from President: Few would doubt that experience carries a value, yet few would be ready to accord to experience the irrationally high esteem granted it by the various units, agencies, and boards that govern and deliver higher education in Louisiana. In an educational establishment where “retire-rehire” could almost qualify as the refrain of a top-ten tune, where retreads and reassigned old hands move from juicy appointment to juicier portfolio while youngsters scramble for bread, where middle age is all but marginalized, where “double dipping” may sometimes lead to the ejection of a Commissioner but will usually create happy prosperity …

Amplifying Student Voices In Higher Education: Democratizing Teaching And Learning Through Changing The Acoustic On A College Campus, Alison Cook-Sather
Education Program Faculty Research and Scholarship
This article describes three programs that work to democratize teaching and learning in higher education through amplifying student voices. The third program brings undergraduate students, faculty, and staff together to explore social justice issues and to build capacity for communicating across differences. Based at a selective …

Exploring The Relationship Between Planning And Training, And Response To Campus Safety Incidents, Kimberly Michele Harvey
Dissertations
Over the past 50 years, campus violence has significantly impacted our institutions of higher education. The Virginia Tech tragedy in 2007 highlighted the necessity of emergency management planning and training as well as employee understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Emergency management plans for 27 institutions in Missouri were collected and evaluated to determine how they instructed employees to respond to various campus safety scenarios and how training factored into the campus plans. Two-hundred, fifty-one employees were then surveyed to …
