Female Leadership In Male-Dominated Organizations, Sue Dewine
Association for Communication Administration Bulletin
This article examines female leadership in male-dominated organizational cultures, particularly within the field of communication. It critiques common advice that encourages women to imitate masculine leadership models, arguing that such approaches create sterile environments and diminish the unique strengths women bring to leadership. The discussion reviews research on organizational culture and the influence of administrators in shaping departmental climates, highlighting persistent barriers faced by women in higher education. Evidence shows that female administrators often experience role conflict, isolation, and burnout, despite having skills comparable to male counterparts. Recommendations include embracing androgynous leadership traits, building professional networks, and promoting cultural change …

Modeling Institutional Production Of Higher Education, Robert C. Dolan, Robert M. Schmidt
Robins School of Business White Paper Series, 1980-2022
This study examines the input-output relationship for private undergraduate education. The objective s to identify the relative contributions of human and physical resources in the production of quality undergraduate education. The research methods are noteworthy in three general respects. First, the theoretical orientation emphasized interdependence among inputs and outputs in higher education. The significance of simultaneity is demonstrated in an empirical model estimated via a three-stage least-squares technique. Second, the study introduces an original and promising data set for research in higher educational production. Of special note is an index of output reflecting the quantity and quality of institutional production. …

Study Process Questionnaire: Student Approaches To Learning And Studying, John B. Biggs
Higher education research
Student Approaches to Learning and Studying formulates a theory of student learning which, together with the instruments deriving from it, has important implications for teaching practice at the secondary and tertiary level. The norms were established on two secondary and two tertiary large national samples. The instruments are easy and convenient to administer and score, and their inter-pretation and use are based on carefully researched but easy-to-grasp theory. Student Approaches to Learning and Studying consists of a Research Monograph which describes the investigations leading to the theory's formulation; LPQ Manual which gives data on reliability and validityand describes a 36 …
