Instructional Costs And Tuition Revenues, David Yamoah
Instructional Costs And Tuition Revenues, David Yamoah
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
A variety of tax reform initiatives have impacted on the ability of New Jersey and some states in the United States to fund public higher education. Public Higher Education faces competition for limited state resources from a variety of state mandatory spending measures including health, criminal justice and elementary and secondary education. In addition, concern about the cost of higher education has resulted in demand for accountability in the use of public funds, which has lead to the need to establish relationship between funding and cost of providing higher education.

From Policy Design To Campus: Implementation Of A Tuition Decentralization Policy, Michael S. Harris
From Policy Design To Campus: Implementation Of A Tuition Decentralization Policy, Michael S. Harris
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
This study analyzes the implementation of a tuition decentralization policy in North Carolina. Concepts of organizational culture served as a guiding framework for an interpretive analysis. Qualitative case study data for the research was collected from interviews with key policy makers within the University of North Carolina as well as an extensive collection of documents. The findings demonstrate the importance of shared norms and beliefs in achieving successful policy implementation through a case study where incongruence of stakeholder values, beliefs, and goals created institutional conflict.

Evidence About The Potential Role For Affirmative Action In Higher Education, Braz Camargo, Ralph Stinebrickner, Todd Stinebrickner
Evidence About The Potential Role For Affirmative Action In Higher Education, Braz Camargo, Ralph Stinebrickner, Todd Stinebrickner
University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research Discussion Paper Series
In two recent cases involving the University of Michigan, the Supreme Court examined whether race should be allowed to play an explicit role in the admission decisions of schools. The primary argument in these court cases and others has been that racial diversity strengthens the quality of education offered to all students. Underlying this argument is the notion that educational benefits arise if interactions between students of different races improve preparation for life after college by, among other things, fostering mutual understanding and correcting misperceptions. Then, a fundamental condition necessary for the primary legal argument to be compelling is that …
Adapted Physical Education Enrollment Issues And Exercise Mediators For Students With Disabilities In San Diego County Community Colleges, Toni M. Pfister Edd
Adapted Physical Education Enrollment Issues And Exercise Mediators For Students With Disabilities In San Diego County Community Colleges, Toni M. Pfister Edd
Dissertations
Most community colleges in California offer adapted physical education (APE) courses specifically designed to assist people with disabilities and chronic diseases in adapting and maintaining exercise programs. However, little is known about those eligible to enroll in these courses as well as their participation profiles; as such, the primary purpose of this study was to determine why some eligible community college students with disabilities do not enroll in APE courses as well as to determine what relationship demographics and exercise participation profiles have on physical activity participation. Data for this study was gathered through a web-based survey of 163 college …
Strategic Directions For Gettysburg College, June 2007, President's Office
Strategic Directions For Gettysburg College, June 2007, President's Office
Reports from the President’s Office
Gettysburg is a college deeply rooted in the American experience. It was born of democratic values, strong optimism, and the firm conviction that only a liberal arts education fully awakens and prepares people to live purposeful lives as citizen leaders. Our founders were champions of freedom and liberty, progressive thinkers, and staunch believers in the power of the liberal arts to prepare leaders to meet the challenges of our young nation.
Those beliefs were tested on the fields that surround our campus where a century and a half ago men gave their lives in a battle that defined our nation’s …
No Wealthy Parent Left Behind: An Analysis Of Tax Subsidies For Higher Education, Andrew Pike
No Wealthy Parent Left Behind: An Analysis Of Tax Subsidies For Higher Education, Andrew Pike
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
This article analyzes the status in 2007 of higher education costs in relation to U.S. taxation policy and the declining real income and ability of lower and middle income taxpayers to pay tuition and fees. Then-current tax policy lessened support for families with the greatest financial need while providing much greater levels of support to those with greater financial resources. To enhance distributional fairness, the author proposes that Congress repeal tax provisions that have this effect and consolidate the separate sources of federal financial aid grants into one program--an expanded Pell Grant program. He also advises that Congress make the …

Use Of Collaborative Spaces In An Academic Library, Howard Silver
Use Of Collaborative Spaces In An Academic Library, Howard Silver
Miscellaneous Items
With the design of new libraries increasingly emphasizing support for collaborative activity, librarians need to understand how and why their users are working together in library spaces. No published studies quantify the impact of collaborative spaces in academic libraries on student learning behaviors. The objective of this study was to determine how and why the collaborative spaces in an academic library were used, and how well the observed use matched the intent of the people who designed and managed the spaces.

Hao Bu Hao: A Survival Guide For Zhejiang University, Jenna N. D’Amico
Senior Honors Projects
In an ever-expanding global society, we must learn to embrace other cultures much different from our own. The University of Rhode Island’s International Engineering Program has opened several opportunities for students to work and live in an environment much different from that in Kingston, the most recent one being at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. The first group was sent to Hangzhou during the summer of 2006 for seven weeks to learn Mandarin and learn about the Far East. The fourteen of us lived in a dorm, studied Mandarin Chinese, visited cultural and historical sites, and took in all …
