"¿Y Sois Hombre O Sois Mujer?": Sex And Gender In Tirso’S Don Gil De Las Calzas Verdes, Matthew D. Stroud
Modern Languages and Literatures Faculty Research
When Henry Sullivan opened the question of the insight that the writings of Jacques Lacan could bring to the comedia, he came somewhat early on to Tirso's magisterial comedia de enredo [comedy of intrigue and deception], Don Gil de las calzas verdes. As with most things Lacanian, his paper, "The Sexual Ambiguities of Tirso de Molina's Don Gil de las calzas verdes," is not easily accessible, having been published in the Proceedings of the Third Annual Golden Age Drama Symposium in El Paso, Texas. It is an important contribution to Tirsian studies, however, and he identifies three …

An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson
An Investigation To Determine The Prevalence Of Starvation Dieting Among High School Students As Affected By Gender, Race And Socioeconomic Status, Michal Lee Erickson
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Sociologists report that twenty million Americans are on a 'serious' diet. There has never been a period when such large numbers of people have spent so much time, money, and emotional energy on their weight. The message conveyed by society, the Fashion and movie industries, modern medicine and the media is quite clear - thin is in! The problem lies in the fact that the message does not distinguish between realistic standards and unattainable ideals, especially for women.
Experts on eating disorders report that ninety percent of those suffering from anorexia nervosa (self-starvation) are females, ages 13-21, from white ethnic …

Social Background And Bureaucratic Behavior In Egypt, Earl L. Sullivan, El Sayed Yassin, Ali Leila, Monte Palmer
Faculty Books
This study of the role of gender and religion in the Egyptian bureaucracy provides general background information pertaining to the three major topics of this book: bureaucratic behaviour, the role of women in Egyptian society and relations between Egypt's religious groups, the Muslims and the Copts. The author hypothesizes that the attitudes and behaviour of Egyptian bureaucrats will differ markedly on the basis of sex, but that the attitudes and behaviour of Coptic bureaucrats will not differ significantly from those of their Muslim counterparts. The two hypotheses were tested in reference to eight sets of attitudes and behaviour, viz. media …
The Nontraditional Student At Ferris State University: Implications For Recruitment And Retention, Sharon K. Octernaud
The Nontraditional Student At Ferris State University: Implications For Recruitment And Retention, Sharon K. Octernaud
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
As the number of high school graduates decreases, Ferris State University (FSU) will increasingly compete with the other fourteen state universities, community colleges, and private schools for high school students. Therefore, in a effort to maintain current enrollment levels, Ferris will need to recruit actively nontraditional students (students aged twenty-five and older).
The recognition of and adaptation to the changes in the Ferris student population are of utmost importance to the university if administrators and faculty are to assess successfully the effects of this population on the institution's academic programs and fiscal health. Prior to this study, no one at …

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Clark County Community College Computer Graphics Department program director, was approached by Southern Nevada community college faculty members, secondary vocation.al/technical teachers. and local vocational leadership and asked to develop a computer literacy program for the state's vocational teachers. The most optimistic computer literacy studies conducted nation-wide in the last five years indicated that at least fifty percent of teachers in all disciplines lacked computer literacy. The study methodology …

Curriculum awakeners:
Definitive statements· by Newsom, 1948; Cooper, 1968; Green 1976; Sutherland 1981; and Parker & Offer 1989, have had a profound influence on the orientation of Part 2 of my report on the "Curriculum for Girls" in Australia over the past twenty two years.
John Newsom, (1948) A quotation which made a deep impression on me was that of Newsom:

The Impact Of Gender Differences On The Ethical Conduct Of Corporate Middle Management, Daniel W. Kemper
Theses
This thesis will focus on the study of business ethics and the impact gender has upon the ethical decisions of corporate middle management .
Research has attributed the lack of ethics in businessmen to a decline in moral standards . Because this condition seems to be the rule rather than the exception, it becomes necessary to focus more clearly on the corporate system and the moral development of the individuals who make up this system.
Over the years moral development has been the subject of controversy as many theorists have developed their own ideas as to why people behave morally. …

A Study Of Feminine Role Models Selected By Catholic Women, Miriam F. Kaeser Edd
Dissertations
Women are being challenged to greater levels of growth and self-development because of the expanding opportunities and options available to them in nearly ever facet of society today. Most women need the support and inspiration of other women as role models in order to respond to these challenges. In living out their faith commitment in the present culture, Catholic women also need role models. The Catholic Church has long presented its members with a variety of saints, and with Mary, the mother of Jesus, as role models. Are Mary and women saints viable role models for Catholic women today? If …
