Treating Professionals Professionally: Requiring Security Of Position For All Skills-Focused Faculty Under Aba Accreditation Standard 405(C) And Eliminating 405(D), Lucille A. Jewel
Scholarly Works
In 2014, the American Bar Association (ABA) decided to retain Accreditation Standard 405 in its current form to preserve tenure for law faculty as well as the status, security of position, governance rights, and academic freedom that tenure provides. In doing so, the ABA also preserved the long-standing hierarchy that elevates doctrine-focused faculty over skills-focused faculty. That hierarchy discriminates against skills-focused faculty, particularly those who specialize in legal writing--most of whom are women. This paper calls on the ABA to address this discrimination against skills-focused faculty and the negative effects it has on schools, faculty, and students. As explained in …

Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Campus Climate Before And After A Consolidation, Stephanie Denise Watson
Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Campus Climate Before And After A Consolidation, Stephanie Denise Watson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Consolidations have become a market strategy for both public and private higher education institutions as a way of rebranding to address financial challenges and to remain competitive. Challenges arise when faculty and staff members are expected to merge the racial climates of a non-historically black college and university (NHBCU) and a historically black college and university (HBCU). The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of issues related to inclusion, campus interactions, and diverse campus groups following the consolidation. The racial campus climate framework by Hurtado, Milem, Clayton-Pedersen, and Allen served as the conceptual framework for this …

This project involved the development of an Open Educational Resource (OER) textbook for an Introduction to Industrial Engineering course. The project involved remixing an existing OER document to better fit the needs of IE 1205 at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). The remixing included adding content from other sources, adding original content, and removing content that was not applicable to the existing course at UTA. Video media and interactive exercises in the form H5P content were also added to the text. The text was developed in Pressbooks and was supported by a UTA CARES grant.

Mavs Open Press Open Educational Resources - Archive
Over time students enrolled in ANTH 2339: Introduction to Archaeology have informally commented on the required course materials, often citing the expense of the book particularly coupled with the expenses of all the books students needed to buy for all their classes each semester. Even when using an older edition textbook to reduce cost, it became clear that most students in the course were not purchasing the textbook. In Summer 2019, the course was approved for the Core Curriculum at UTA. Introduction to Archaeology now fulfills a Social and Behavioral Sciences requirement for all UTA students. Its adoption into the …

Perceptions Of African American Faculty Retention Practices In Community College, Kyle Huntington Bright
Perceptions Of African American Faculty Retention Practices In Community College, Kyle Huntington Bright
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The retention of African American faculty at predominantly White institutions (PWI) has long been a point of concern in higher education. Midwest Community College (MCC), a PWI, 2-year public institution, has a problem of retaining African American faculty employed by the college. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of African American faculty retention practices at MCC since little is known about the African American faculty experience at PWIs. Delagado and Stefancic's critical race theory conceptual framework of counter storytelling, Whiteness as property, interest conversion, and critique of liberalism guided this study. A qualitative case study research …

Preparing Clinical Faculty To Teach And Reinforce Hourly Rounding, Lisa Bailey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A gap exists in the knowledge of clinical faculty teaching prelicensure students about hourly rounding. The purpose of this project was to develop an educational program to prepare clinical faculty teaching student nurses to conduct hourly rounding. Hourly rounding trained faculty ensure safe practice by students and adherence to hospital policies. Hourly rounding includes the 4 Ps, which entails the assessment of “potty”, pain, position, and possession/periphery. Models and theories used to inform the project included the American Academy of Pediatrics’ 10-step process for developing training courses, Knowles’ theory of adult learning, Kirkpatrick's evaluation model, and the Accreditation Commission for …

Association Between The Nurse Work Environment And Severe Maternal Morbidity In High-Income Countries: A Systematic Review Protocol, Kyrah K. Brown, Jessica G. Smith, Raeanna L. Jeffers, Claudy Jean Pierre
UTA Libraries Staff Publications - Archive
Background The United States has the highest maternal mortality and morbidity rates compared to its high-income peer nations. In high-income nations, a considerable amount of maternal morbidity cases are preventable and linked to provider-related factors. Better nurse work environments are associated with positive patient outcomes, but little is known about its impact on maternal morbidity. In this systematic review, we aim to identify the association between nurse work environment and maternal morbidity, specifically in high-income countries. Methods This systematic review will include original articles on the association between nurse work environment and maternal morbidity. CINAHL, PubMed/Medline and the Cochrane Central …
Technology Fatigue Of Faculty In Higher Education, Colleen Halupa, Doris U. Bolliger
Technology Fatigue Of Faculty In Higher Education, Colleen Halupa, Doris U. Bolliger
STEMPS Faculty Publications
The study investigated technology fatigue in instructors employed at three universities located in the United States. Instructors at three private institutions of higher learning located in two states were invited to complete an online survey that was developed by the researchers. Technology fatigue was operationalized as technology-use related stress (technostress) and frequent change in technology (change fatigue). A total of 171 valid responses were received from participants during a four-week period. Results show that they experienced moderate levels of technology fatigue. No statistically significant differences in responses were found based on the two types of learning environments (campus-based and online). …

The School of Social Work (SSW) adopted open educational resources for use in introductory Research Methods courses across the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs. Two OER products were created - a textbook and a guidebook for writing literature reviews. The OER were piloted in Fall 2019 and introduced across the programs in Spring 2020. The three main goals of the adoption project were to: (1) provide a high quality, relevant Research Methods textbook to undergraduate and graduate social work student students, (2) have all required resources for all sections of the course be …

Knowledge And Willingness Of Academic Advisors And College Professors Regarding Concussion And Academic Accommodations, Loriann Tedder
Knowledge And Willingness Of Academic Advisors And College Professors Regarding Concussion And Academic Accommodations, Loriann Tedder
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Introduction: A significant increase in the number of concussions has guided research to look beyond physical return to play but rather examine cognitive return to learn as an all-inclusive approach to concussion management. Part of the return to learn protocol incorporates academic accommodations within the classroom, which can be implemented by academic advisors and professors. However, their knowledge and willingness of this role is unclear. Purpose: To determine academic advisors and college professor’s knowledge of concussions and their willingness to provide academic accommodations to students recovering from a concussion. Hypothesis: H1: Academic advisors and professors have a …

Faculty Use Of Open Educational Resources: Attitudes, Norms, And Self-Efficacy As Behavioral Predictors., Jocelyn Tipton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The primary drivers of open educational practices, open educational resources (OER), and OER enabled pedagogy are the faculty who will help transform higher education in these domains. The purpose of this study was to understand factors that lead faculty to use OER and to learn how their use is related to teaching behaviors. It is broadly based on an OER Research Hub hypothesis that the use of OER leads to critical reflection by the educator with evidence of improvement in their practices. Within that hypothesis is the suggestion that the use of OER causes faculty to incorporate a wider range …
