For at least the past ten years, eating disorders have had a major impact in the physical and mental health of women, particularly young women. Anorexia and bulimia nervosa are closely linked eating disorders. Anorexia often precedes bulimia. However, there are about 2 million women in college that have been exclusively bulimic. In this article, we focus on the role of college-peer pressure on the dynamics of anorexia-free bulimia. The model looks at bulimia as a progressive disease and explores the impact of intervention (treatment) at two stages of disease progression. The impact of relapse (a common occurrence among bulimics) …

Development Of The Instructional Skills Program At The Southern Alberta Institute Of Technology, Jane E. Duncan
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Canadian post-secondary institutions are facing significant changes that impact the teaching and learning environment. Consistent with the changes in Canadian postsecondary institutions in general, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has also undergone significant change. SAIT’s ability to thrive in the changing environment and to achieve its strategic goals rests on a number of factors, one of which is adequate numbers of effective faculty. In order to ensure effective faculty, an up-to date Instructional Skills Program (ISP) is required for new faculty. At present, SAIT offers a two-week ISP that is based on out-of-date competencies, thus the program is …

This applied dissertation was designed to seek ways to improve the NCLEX-RN passage rate and to lower the attrition rate in a community college nursing program. The program had a significant problem because of the decrease in passage rate of the NCLEX-RN by graduating students and an increase in student attrition. Expost facto data were collected from 213 former nursing student records to compare the independent variables of preadmission test scores, academic prerequisites grades, demographic traits, HESI exit exam scores, and grades in the Nursing Skills Course to the completion of the nursing program and passage of the NCLEX-RN. A …
