Vaccination Strategies And Backward Bifurcation In Age-Since-Infection Structured Model, Christopher Kribs, Maia Martcheva
Vaccination Strategies And Backward Bifurcation In Age-Since-Infection Structured Model, Christopher Kribs, Maia Martcheva
Mathematics Faculty Publications - Archive
We consider models for a disease with acute and chronic infective stages, and variable infectivity and recovery rates, within the context of a vaccination campaign. Models for SIRS and SIS disease cycles exhibit backward bifurcations under certain conditions, which complicate the criteria for success of the vaccination campaign by making it possible to have stable endemic states when R0 < 1. We also show the extent to which the forms of the infectivity and recovery functions affect the possibility of backward bifurcations. SIR and SI models examined do not exhibit this behavior.

In the organizational competition for talent, successful retention of newly recruited workers is at least as important as the initial hire. Still, many organizations fail to establish a sense of inclusion for new people in much the same way they often fail to create a sense of inclusion for people of color, women, people with foreign accents, or anyone with obvious differences from the “traditional group.” In most organizations, even those that have embarked on “diversity initiatives,” newly hired people often do not feel welcomed. Consequently, turnover rates in the first two years of employment are seven times greater than …

Comparison Of Mean Scores In Skill Development In The Use Of Two Skills Inventories For Early Childhood Education Student Teachers, Kelly O. Lake
Comparison Of Mean Scores In Skill Development In The Use Of Two Skills Inventories For Early Childhood Education Student Teachers, Kelly O. Lake
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department at Santa Barbara City College has the mission of offering coursework and applied student teaching opportunities to those interested in working with young children from birth to age eight. As part of their student teaching practicums, student teachers learn the skill of self-reflection in the self-assessment process. The nature of the problem for this study is the ECE Department uses two different skills inventories in assessing the competency level of student teachers. The student teachers perceive a double standard exists in the evaluation of their skills. Also, the faculty do not use consistent language …
Comparison Of The Quality Of Curriculum Written By Faculty Who Have Participated In Training To Curriculum Written By Faculty Who Have Not Participated In Training, Sue Salter
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The problem for this study was that it was unknown whether faculty participation in an IPD curriculum-writing workshop resulted in higher IPD curriculum module overall quality assessment scores (OQAS) when compared to the OQAS scores of modules written by faculty who did not participate in the curriculum-writing workshop.
There was one research question for this study: Will there be a significant difference in the mean IPD curriculum module OQAS scores of modules written by faculty who have participated in an IPD curriculum-writing workshop and by faculty who have not participated in an IPD curriculum-writing workshop?
IPD records of curriculum modules …
Development, Implementation, And Evaluation Of A Study Abroad Program In Rome, Italy For Mount Mary College, Yvonne M. Hennigan
Development, Implementation, And Evaluation Of A Study Abroad Program In Rome, Italy For Mount Mary College, Yvonne M. Hennigan
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The problem addressed in this project was that although Mount Mary College wants enrolled students to have an international experience, the college seeks also to prevent the loss of tuition when students study abroad. The mission of the all women Catholic college was committed to the development of the whole woman. The vision of the college was to educate women to transform the world.
The conflict between the president of the college wanting students to study abroad and the loss of revenue when students leave to study abroad was serious and problematic. The purpose of the project was to provide …
Assessing Faculty Perspectives On Implementing The Boyer Model, Delilah Anne Schwaner
Assessing Faculty Perspectives On Implementing The Boyer Model, Delilah Anne Schwaner
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The Boyer model is a well-recognized format chosen by many universities as a guide for leave, rank and tenure criteria, and for rewarding activities by faculty. Given a past, brief association with this model by faculty and administration at Southern Utah University, and the continuing need for a comprehensive review of scholarly effort in the institution, this study was undertaken to gauge the level of understanding of Boyer's model and his four scholarships, satisfaction with present policies, and attitudes toward change. The aim was to explore the use of a questionnaire as an instrument to measure knowledge and attitudes, to …
Community College Faculty Attitudes On Professional Development Attendance And Incentives, Patricia T Laflamme
Community College Faculty Attitudes On Professional Development Attendance And Incentives, Patricia T Laflamme
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The full-time teaching faculty of the Community College of Southern Nevada responded to a survey designed to gather their views on internal professional development activities coordinated by the Faculty Center for Learning & Teaching (FCLT). The survey items elicited what types of activities or attitudes interfered with faculty attendance at such activities and what potential incentives or rewards were attractive to them in return for their participation in the activities; Significant findings for reasons that faculty do not participate in professional development primarily revolved around the faculty demographic characteristics of gender or teaching area (vocational or academic). This was true …
