An Evaluation Of Nutrition Education Program For Low-Income Youth, Olive Mk Kemirembe, Rama B. Radhakrishna, Elise Gurgevich, Edgar P. Yoder, Patreese D. Ingram
Journal of Extension
A quasi-experimental design consisting of pretest, posttest, and delayed posttest comparison control group was used. Nutrition knowledge and behaviors were measured at pretest (time 1) posttest (time 2) and delayed posttest (time 3). General Linear Model (GLM) repeated measure ANCOVA results showed that youth who received nutrition education lessons significantly improved their nutrition knowledge and nutrition behaviors compared to those who did not participate in the lessons.

The purpose of this study was to explore child welfare workers' opinions as to what the barriers are in implementing the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978. The results will contribute to social work practice by addressing the fact that Native Americans represent a disproportional amount of youth and families serviced by Child Welfare and ICWA.

The Storytelling for Home Enrichment of Language and Literacy Skills (SHELLS) approach uses family storytelling and book-making activities to promote children’s language and literacy skills. This approach was developed to assist practitioners who work with families to promote children’s development by optimizing the powerful influence of children’s natural environments and their family relationships, culture, interests, conversations, and interaction. SHELLS is an evidence-based early language and literacy approach with three primary aims: (a) to increase parent–child conversation and narratives, (b) to create meaningful literacy materials, and (c) to encourage continuing language and literacy activities for children at home. Despite a legal mandate to report suspected child maltreatment, the literature has consistently reported a failure by mandated professionals to report suspected maltreatment. Lack of knowledge regarding child maltreatment, reporting requirements and possible consequences of reporting have been cited as impediments to reporting. Previous research has recommended the development of training programs to address these hindrances. However, empirically validated training programs specific to the reporting of child maltreatment in mental health professionals have yet to be developed. This applied dissertation was designed to improve the problem that teachers were unable to meet the needs of academically talented minority children. The major goals for this applied dissertation were to increase the representation of academically minority children in gifted programs, provide training to teachers in the area of identifying gifted characteristics, and to develop a multifaceted process for the referral and evaluation of academically talented minority children.
The writer developed training materials to provide in-service and training to teachers, school staff personnel, counselors, and psychologists in the areas of observing and assessing gifted characteristics in academically talented minority children. …
