Passive Verb Morphology In Arabic And Faifi Dialect, Essa Salman Alfaifi Dr.
Passive Verb Morphology In Arabic And Faifi Dialect, Essa Salman Alfaifi Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
The formation of passive verbs in Arabic is uniquely challenging due to its complex structure and dialectal variations. While Classical Arabic (CA) and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) adhere to non-concatenative rules of internal vowel modification of the active stem, some dialects use different strategies such as affixation or reflexive pronouns with no modification to the stem. However, despite previous studies on Arabic verbs, the passive verb construction remains insufficiently explored. This paper aims to participate in addressing this gap by detailing the passive verb morphology in the Faifi dialect (FD) and comparing it with CA/MSA. The properties of passive verbs …
Affrication In Najdi Arabic: Application And Resistance, Yasser Abdulrahman Al-Bati Dr.
Affrication In Najdi Arabic: Application And Resistance, Yasser Abdulrahman Al-Bati Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
This paper examines affrication process in Najdi Arabic, Qassimi variety in particular, and proposes a rule of affrication that regulates this phonological process. It discusses the environments where the affricate [ts] is produced in this variety and explores the applications of the proposed rule. It also proposes that [k] and [ts] in NA are not only cases of allophones, but they are actually different phonemes; therefore, some cases of [ts] are not simply cases of affrication of [k], but in fact a phonemic representation of /ts/. The paper also examines various exceptions where affrication is expected but not active in …

The present study investigates a central problem in the field of virtual education: how it influences the use of Google Meet in the Oral Production Competition of University Students at a public university in Lima. The research issue focuses on determining whether this platform, widely integrated into current educational environments, effectively contributes to the development of oral communicative skills in a foreign language. In a context where digital technologies are essential for teaching, understanding their real impact is essential to optimize learning processes in non-face-to-face modalities. Therefore, this investigation adopts an innovative approach based on neutral Z numbers, which allows …

In France, primary school teachers are considered "generalist teachers" capable of expertly teaching all subjects. This ambitious vision of the "ideal teacher," defined by the 2013 French professional competency framework, can lead to professional distress, particularly in foreign language teaching where many primary school teachers feel inadequate.
To improve the well-being of future primary school teachers during language lessons, an innovative teacher training based on children's literature was tested with first-year Master's students in education. The study began with a questionnaire assessing their self-perceived English level and emotions towards teaching it, revealing linguistic insecurity and negative feelings such as anxiety …

Exposing Lived Experiences: Eudora Welty's Intersectional Approach To Writing And Photography, Caroline Mccutchen
Honors Theses
This thesis examines how Eudora Welty employs an intersectional approach in her writing and photography to represent the complex identities of elderly Black women in the American South during the Great Depression. Using intersectionality as a framework, this project analyzes how Welty’s work acknowledges the overlapping forces of race, gender, age, and class that shape her subjects’ lived experiences. While documenting adversity, Welty also highlights resilience, agency, and communal empowerment. The study focuses on Welty’s literary works “A Worn Path,” “Ida M’Toy,” “A Pageant of Birds,” and “Cindy and the Joyful Noise,” alongside her Depression-era photographs from One Time, One …

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Despite the alarming rise of suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs), in preadolescent children over the last two decades, no scales have been developed and validated to assess these troubling tendencies in this population. We describe how we developed English and Spanish language versions of a new scale to assess STBs in children, the Suicide Risk and Ideation Scale for Kids - Child and Parent versions (S-RISK-C/P), using cognitive interviewing. Method. After creating item pools in English and Spanish, we elicited feedback from three clinician content experts and conducted cognitive interviews with 8 children (4 girls; Mage = 10.37 years; …

Linguistic Differences Between Spanish And English: Challenges For Native Spanish Speakers And Instructional Strategies For Effective Language Learning, Allison Kassing
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
This research article presents a contrastive analysis of Spanish and English, highlighting key linguistic differences that contribute to common grammatical errors among Spanish-speaking English learners. The study examines these differences across four linguistic layers: phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Through error analysis, patterns of language transfer were identified and used to develop four 50-minute lesson plans tailored for English Language Learning (ELL) classes with native Spanish speakers. By recognizing students’ prior linguistic knowledge, ELL teachers can anticipate and address common errors more effectively. Special emphasis is placed on phonemes, morphemes, cognates, and sentence orders that do not exist in both …

Finding Their Voices: The Impact Of Explicit Instruction On Second Language Students’ Authorial Voice Construction In Argumentative Writing, Najlaa N/A Alharbi Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
Authorial voice, crucial for academic writing, reflects a writer's identity and engagement with readers. However, second-language (L2) writing instruction often prioritizes coherence over fostering this voice. This mixed-methods study explored the impact of explicit authorial voice instruction on 74 Saudi female undergraduate students' argumentative writing. Divided into experimental and control groups, the experimental group received voice instruction, while the control group continued with the standard curriculum. Pre and posttests along with focus group interviews were used for data collection. Results showed significant improvement in the presence and clarity of ideas, manner of presentation, and writer-reader engagement in the experimental group's …

The Middle Voice In Najdi Arabic: A Morphological Description, Abdulrahman N/A Althawab Dr., Sara Alotaishan Mrs.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
Voice category is an essential grammatical aspect of verb constructions in linguistics. It is widely known that voice involves two main types: active and passive. However, there is a possibility of having a third grammatical voice known as the middle voice. Based on the relevant literature, the middle voice is a controversial topic that has aroused debate over its linguistic properties. This paper, therefore, aims to investigate some of the middle voice linguistic properties within a morphological context. More specifically, it attempts to identify the middle voice verb patterns and examine their existence using a linguistic test in one of …
