Making Motherhood Safer In Egypt, Karima Khalil, Farzaneh Roudi-Fahimi
Making Motherhood Safer In Egypt, Karima Khalil, Farzaneh Roudi-Fahimi
Reproductive Health
Fewer Egyptian women die of maternal causes today than they did 10 or 15 years ago, due in large part to the national safe motherhood program. Nevertheless, maternal mortality is still relatively high, and the country faces challenges in reducing it further. Many of these challenges involve addressing the delays women face when they need essential obstetric care. In Egypt and other countries, most maternal deaths could be avoided if women had timely access to high-quality emergency obstetric services. Although Egypt’s level of maternal mortality is relatively high by international standards, recent evidence suggests that a woman’s lifetime risk of …

Development Of A Retention Plan For The Indian River Community College With A Plan For Implementation And Evaluation, Maribeth Craft
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Indian River Community College is a comprehensive two-year public postsecondary institution located in Fort Pierce, Florida. IRCC serves the career, training and cultural needs of the quad-county residents of St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties, on the Treasure Coast of Florida. The 2002-2003 IRCC enrollment was approximately 38,500 full-time and part-time equivalent students.
The problem addressed in this dissertation was that the college identified high attrition and failure rates of the students in college developmental courses as a major barrier to student success in their post secondary programs. Remedial courses are the gateway for over 70% of first-time …

A Computer Approach To Improving Junior High Reading And Writing Test Scores, Christopher D. Sullens
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
This applied dissertation was designed to improve Grades 6, 7, and 8 reading and writing scores. A review of the 2000 and 2001 Illinois Standards Achievement Test results indicated that students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 had difficulty in reading and writing. Prior to the intervention, junior high students did not use any type of computer software to improve their achievement in reading or writing.
The writer purchased the latest version (5.4) of SuccessMaker® (Pearson Digital Learning, 2000) software and additional computers for the intervention. The software was installed on a server, 6 computers in the junior high English …

To Glory Or To Ruin : Guinevere And Vivien In Thomas Malory's Morte Darthur, Alfred Tennyson's Idylls Of The King, And Edwin Arlington Robinson's Merlin And Lancelot, Eunice W. Carwile
To Glory Or To Ruin : Guinevere And Vivien In Thomas Malory's Morte Darthur, Alfred Tennyson's Idylls Of The King, And Edwin Arlington Robinson's Merlin And Lancelot, Eunice W. Carwile
English & Modern Languages: Theses, Dissertations & Student Publications
From Malory's Morte Darthur, through Tennyson's Idylls of the King, and through Robinson's Merlin and Lancelot, Guinevere and Vivien evolve from mere servants of a masculine plot and theme to well-rounded characters who struggle with the same problems that confront their male counterparts. Malory's world is about knights, warfare, and a holy quest, with women acting or reacting in certain ways only to move the plot along. While Tennyson develops female characters more fully than Malory, the great Victorian pays no homage to Arthurian womankind, bringing to his work a philosophy of sin-weakness-destruction that makes Vivien an evil seductress and …
