G74-98 Buying A Center Pivot, John W. Addink Jan 1974

G74-98 Buying A Center Pivot, John W. Addink

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

A center-pivot sprinkler system is a medium cost, low labor irrigation method. A few of these systems have been high cost, high labor irrigation methods. Consideration of a few details in the purchase of the system can help prevent the high cost and/or high labor.

Many different types of systems are available today. Consideration must be given to soil texture and slope of the field to be irrigated with the center-pivot. This publication covers what to look for when purchasing a center-pivot sprinkler system.

Storage Of Fresh Water In Saline Aquifers Using A Well Field., Walter Richard Whitehead Jan 1974

Storage Of Fresh Water In Saline Aquifers Using A Well Field., Walter Richard Whitehead

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

The computational procedure presented in this disser tation should enable the practicing engineer to design well fields for the storage of fresh water in horizontal saline aquifers in which there is no pre-existing ground-water movement. The recovery efficiency of the injection/storage/ retrieval process can now be reliably computed, thus making possible an economic analysis of the process in any speci fied area. An economic comparison of the storage of ap proximately one billion gallons in a saline aquifer that underlies the New Orleans area was made with the present most feasible alternate--steel tanks. The results favored the saline aquifer storage …

Porous Sand-Asphalt Mixtures, James H. Havens Jan 1974

Porous Sand-Asphalt Mixtures, James H. Havens

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Size is relative. Densely graded sand-asphalts are relatively similar to conventional, bituminous concretes. Porous sand-asphalts possess the same attributes as other porous, bituminous mixtures. Surely, sand-asphalt mixtures, can be designed to be as porous as the so-called, open-graded plantmix seals. Particle shape and texture otherwise define skid-resistance. Stability remains an assurance against scaling. Stability is assured by maximum utilization of filler-bitumen ratio and the stiffness of asphalt cement.

G73-58 Programmed Soil Moisture Depletion: Top Yields With Least Water (Revised), Paul E. Fischbach, Burt R. Sommerhalder

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

The development of automated irrigation has introduced a revised concept to irrigation water management that will mean savings of water and energy. By not completely refilling the root zone each irrigation, soil moisture storage capacity is left within the root zone to take advantage of any rainfall that occurs after an irrigation. Conservation of water is important because supplies are being depleted in many areas.
