The purpose of this study was to examine whether the specific set of variablesEducation, ethnicity, severity of substance abuse, dual/polysubstance abuse, and severity of psychiatric problems was able to predict level of employment in substance abusing veterans. Initial data were gathered utilizing archival data from the Addiction Severity Index from 148 consecutive referrals to a substance abuse unit at the Veterans Administration of Western New York Healthcare System in Buffalo, New York from June 1997 to September 1997. This Comment is a guide for both employers and employees in successfully complying with the ADA's provisions, as they relate to persons with learning disabilities. Part II of this paper examines the types of employment discrimination that individuals with learning disabilities encounter in the application, daily work, and promotion processes. Part III provides an overview of the employment discrimination provisions of the ADA and how those provisions apply to people with learning disabilities. Among the goals of recent supported work employment programs is improvement of competitive employment opportunities for individuals who suffer from chronic mental illness, and for whom competitive employment outcomes are poor. This study examined the effects of a vocational rehabilitation program, Project Success (Skills Upgrade: Client Centered Empowerment Supportive Services), on self esteem and quality of life for chronically mentally ill participants.

Education is designed to prepare all students for productive citizenship. Students with disabilities, however, are employed at lower rates, earning less money, and accruing fewer benefits than their nondisabled peers. In order to design a curriculum that targets employment as an outcome, special educators must determine the needs and expectations of employers. This study compared the perceptions of employers, special education teachers, to learning disabled students .Employers and special education teachers rated work related, communication, personal, and social skills similarly while students with learning disabilities formed in congruent perceptions of the working world.
