While various tools have been created to assist the digital forensics community with acquiring, processing, and organizing evidence and indicating the existence of artifacts, very few attempts have been made to establish a centralized system for archiving artifacts. The Artifact Genome Project (AGP) has aimed to create the largest vetted and freely available digital forensics repository for Curated Forensic Artifacts (CuFAs). This paper details the experience of building, implementing, and maintaining such a system by sharing design decisions, lessons learned, and future work. We also discuss the impact of AGP in both the professional and academic realms of digital forensics. …

A Framework And Exploration Of A Cybersecurity Education Escape Room, Justin Charles Snyder
A Framework And Exploration Of A Cybersecurity Education Escape Room, Justin Charles Snyder
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents a review of educational-escape-room literature followed by a design-oriented framework (the Snyder Escape Room Framework or SERF) and demonstrates the potential efficacy of escape-rooms in cybersecurity education. Several authors have proposed frameworks and guidelines for game and educational design regarding escape rooms. This work coalesces some of those ideas into a more substantial and comprehensive framework (SERF) that designers can use when developing educational escape rooms. The Snyder Escape Room Framework provides heuristics for goals and objectives, players, activities, context, trajectory design, and evaluation. Additionally, this work describes and analyzes the novel prototyped BYU GCC escape room …

Principals' Instructional Leadership In Title I Schools: A Closer Look, George Kleidon
Principals' Instructional Leadership In Title I Schools: A Closer Look, George Kleidon
Dissertations
The students in Title I schools remain the most vulnerable in our education system. Principals in these schools must be exceptional and well prepared. However, principals have been trained in a universal approach that is not sufficient for those who lead schools with high poverty rates as well as culturally and linguistically diverse learners. The purpose of this mixed-methods descriptive study was to gain insight from principals about instructional leadership in Title I schools. Thirty-two principals described their perceptions about the preparation, supports, and challenges necessary to develop instructional leadership, including cultural proficiency for Title I schools. The findings in …
Effects Of The United States Reconstruction On Nationalism In The Japanese Education System, Connell Murphy
Effects Of The United States Reconstruction On Nationalism In The Japanese Education System, Connell Murphy
Voces Novae
When the United States began its reconstruction of Japan after World War II, they consistently put their own interests within the country before what would benefit Japan the most . While the first two years of the occupation led to significant changes inside and outside schools, including the Ministry of Education’s diminished role, increased local involvement in the academic system, and the removal of nationalistic “morality” classes such as shushin. All of these changes were necessary efforts to denationalize and decentralize Japan’s educational system and allow more choices for teachers and schools. When Washington began to take an increased interest …

An Evaluation Of Suicide Risk Assessment And Management Trainings In Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programs, Maureen F. Monahan
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
It has been suggested that mental health professionals are insufficiently trained to assess and manage suicide risk (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Defense [USDVA/DOD], 2013; Goldsmith, Pellmar, Kleinman, & Burney, 2002; Jobes, Rudd, Overholser, & Joiner, 2008; Mirick, McCauley, Bridger, & Berkowitz, 2015; Silverman & Berman, 2014) and this problem may originate during graduate training (Feldman & Freedenthal, 2006; Mackelprang, Karle, Reighl, & Cash, 2014; Rudd, Cukrowicz, & Bryan, 2008; Schmitz et al., 2012). Unfortunately, however, this area has been inadequately studied (Battista, 2007; Cramer, Johnson, McLaughlin, Rausch, & Conroy, 2013; Department of Health and Human Services, 2012; Stuber …
In An Era Of Fake News, Information Literacy Has A Role To Play In Journalism Education In Ireland, Isabelle Courtney
In An Era Of Fake News, Information Literacy Has A Role To Play In Journalism Education In Ireland, Isabelle Courtney
Irish Communication Review
Framed by the problem of fake news and misinformation, a recent study into journalism education in Ireland focused on the overlaps that exist between two professions: journalism and librarianship. The emerging literature on fake news is overwhelmingly coming from these two disciplines. Historically both have deep roots in truth and fact and employ a specific range of tools for the evaluation of information. Librarians use a framework called information literacy, while journalism educators speak of media literacy, fact-checking and verification of sources. With the many overlaps in media and information literacy, journalists and librarians would appear to be natural partners …
Engineers Vs The Environment: The Case For Ecosystem Services In University Education, Kate O'Brien, William Mogg
Engineers Vs The Environment: The Case For Ecosystem Services In University Education, Kate O'Brien, William Mogg
International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software
The concept of ecosystems services provides a powerful framework for education and environmental decision-making. Engineers have an important role to play in the sustainable management of ecosystem services, since engineers design, operate and maintain the processes, infrastructure and equipment which have the potential to damage or destroy environmental systems. However, while sustainability is a concept embraced by professional engineering organisations and taught (in some form) in all reputable engineering degrees, the concept of ecosystem services is not widely known or accepted within the profession, and therefore not considered to be a core part of engineering education. In this study, we …

Transition Design: Teaching And Learning, Stacie Rohrbach, Molly Steenson
DRS Biennial Conference Series
Central to the development of transition design is its foundation in higher education. The theoretical basis that informs the practice of transition design develops from an emergent process comprised of hypotheses, theory, and testing in educational settings. These approaches—which focus on tackling specific, complex, placed-based challenges—must be tailored to address the nature of specific contexts and the varied learning of student cohorts and their respective needs. This paper investigates the value and thoughtful integration of transition design practices into design education and proposes curricula for undergraduate design students. It outlines methods and tools that are utilized in our teaching, describes …

Challenges In Barbadian Design Education – When Graphic Design & Product Development Collide, Shelly Mayers
DRS Biennial Conference Series
The Barbados Community College’s BFA Programme in Graphic Design has been in existence for over 20 years. The year 2009 marked a shift in design application, with pockets of students using graphic design as a catalyst to develop products that are potentially marketable. The current economic climate has made it harder for students to be employed in agencies and studios. One would anticipate that they would follow through in creating new spaces for themselves as designers, i.e. developing products as viable sources of income in a struggling economy, but sadly most do not. Through an exploration of case studies ranging …

A Green Peel On Steam Education: An Innovative And Sustainable Education Scheme Integrating Steam And Environmental Education, Chi Hou Chan, Ying Ting Si Tu
The International Student Science Fair 2018
The STEAM education in China started late so it is still in its infancy. Its curriculum is partial to IT and Internet, which is against the original purpose of interdisciplinary education in STEAM. Meanwhile, the resources put on environmental education are minute so the environmental awareness of citizens is very weak. Therefore, we have proposed an innovative education scheme—integrating STEAM, environmental and family education together so that they can complement each other. Such a scheme not only makes STEAM education more comprehensive, it can also make environmental education more effective. To implement our scheme, we have made use of peel …

Creating Online Learning Experiences: A Brief Guide To Online Courses, From Small And Private To Massive And Open, Matt Crosslin
Mavs Open Press Open Educational Resources - Archive
The process of designing online courses often focuses on the methodology of taking certain steps to produce a product (the course). We feel that learning should be an experience more than a place run by a person constrained by specific designs. The goal of this book is to provide an updated look at many of the issues that comprise the online learning experience creation process. As online learning evolves, the lines and distinctions between the various classifications of courses has blurred and often vanished. Learning contexts run the gamut from small to massive, and from closed courses to boundary-less experiences. …

Essays On Applied Welfare Economics., Sutirtha Bandyopadhyay Dr.
Doctoral Theses
The measurement of welfare forms the foundation of public policy analysis. It is an area where empirical investigations clearly benefits from theoretical insight and where theoretical concepts are brought alive and appropriately focused by the discipline of empirical relevance and policy design. While welfare measurement at the micro level is of independent interest, of greater concern is the well-being of groups of households/individuals.A widely discussed issue in the literature of welfare economics is ‘whose welfare to measure’ when we are interested to measure the well-being of a group of individuals. The most common approach is to assume the existence of …

Education Versus Training At The Nwc, Philip A. Crowl
Naval War College Review
It has been, roughly, 89 years since Commodore Stephen B. Luce left the Atlantic Fleet off Newport, R.I., and had himself rowed over to Coasters Harbor Island, the site of the newly authorized U.S. Naval War College. There existed only one building on the island, which now stands behind the flagpole and houses the headquarters of the Naval Base Command. This modest structure was to be the site of the Navy's new college "for an advanced course of professional study for naval officers,"-the first such institution to be established in this country.1

Investigation Into The Reasons For Secondary School Dropouts In Iceland, Austin S. Seepersad
Student Works
The purpose of this investigation is to examine different facets of Iceland’s culture to determine the reasons for its high secondary schools' dropout rates. This study deconstructs what factors in a Nordic society affect academic performance. Reviewing literature on the subject yielded potential factors such as childhood health and parental behaviors, Iceland’s abundance of accessible jobs, and the low accessibility for higher education in rural parts of Iceland. A limited number of personal interviews and firsthand observations indicated that most secondary school dropouts were due to a lack of family support and incentive – especially for male students, due to …
