Recent numbers of this magazine and other good publications have emphasized the necessity that manual training teachers have a well recognized theory back of their work, and further, that the value of the work of any teacher is in direct ratio to the clearness with which this theory is comprehended and followed in practice. A project is any activity purposed by an individual and by him carried through. Project teaching of manual training is the most difficult kind of teaching, but withall the most fruitful, for it furnishes the opportunity to develop those qualities of manhood that our democratic society …

The value of printing as offered in the curriculum of the graded school has been demonstrated in the training department of the Washington State Normal School at Ellensburg. Students in the seventh and eighth grade classes founded the publication The School News in 1918-1919.

Wesley F. Diedrich First World War Correspondence Collection
This collection contains 69 letters written by Wesley F. Diedrich to his parents during the First World War. Diedrich served in the 27th company of the American Expeditionary Forces. In the first half of the collection, Diedrich described his training and other happenings at Camp Logan in Houston, Texas. In the second half of the collection his division went to Europe and he described cities and locations they visit. The collection also contains six maps, four war pamphlets, six newspaper and magazine clippings, and three photographs.

This collection contains 13 letters written by several soldiers to a woman named Dorothy Hornberger. A majority of the letters were written by her uncle, Clarence Lindstadt, describing camp life, training, talking about things back home. Three letters were written by other soldiers, possibly friends of Clarence. Some of the authors in this collection are connected with the authors in 2014.031.w.r "Lindstadt Brothers First World War Correspondence." Some of them were possible friends.
