It is the purpose of this paper (1) to study the individualized reading group and the basal reading group, as to their progress in comprehension, quantity and word meaning; (2) to compare the two groups to see which group produces the greater amount of progress in comprehension, quantity, and word meaning; (3) to compare the amount of progress of the boys as to the progress of the girls in comprehension, quantity, and word meaning; and (4) to compare the amount of progress of slow, average, and fast readers.

The intent of this study was to give a brief background and history of the theme and variations in early periods of music history, as well as to analyze more specifically and compare in some depth the use of the form by four composers of later periods, in a keyboard work of each. Realizing that the parents play an important role in the counseling program, the primary purpose of this study was to prove that parents and students feel the counseling program provides an opportunity for parents to understand the abilities and needs of their youngsters and to share in their educational planning. It is contended that no matter what limitations the student may have, it is possible through parent-counselor conferences to better understand his needs. Then the home and school can work together in establishing a more satisfying environment.

Thirty years ago Sidney Pressey (1926) published an article describing an apparatus for presenting multiple choice questions which gave the student immediate feedback regarding the correctness of his response to the questions. Although this device was intended to be a "testing machine" rather than a "teaching machine", it is often generously designated the status of being the first teaching machine. Pressey's machine had little impact upon the educational world and for a generation teaching machines were all but forgotten. In the 1950's B.F. Past experience has revealed a definite need to release children, at least partially, from the traditional ability groupings and allow more flexible groupings. The past also revealed that individual children's unique interests and abilities were not being provided for. Since the teaching of reading occupies a central position in the elementary grades, and since children have a wide range of reading abilities and interests, an investigation of individualized reading was prompted.

The disciplinary power of a university is a force which every student has cause to fear. The exercise, or threat of exercise, of a school’s disciplinary power is felt in every area of campus life. Invocation of disciplinary sanctions against a student whose personal conduct or attitudes contravene standards dear to the school authorities has occurred in such ludicrous cases as the failure of a co-ed to be a “typical Syracuse girl.” In another case, a student was expelled because she refused to pay purported debts which she asserted were properly her husband’s obligations. Parents are the child's most potent teachers. They provide the all-important environment. Good manners, good English, love of good books and music, life's ideals, in fact, the whole outlook on the world are developed largely in the home. And so are dislikes and prejudices, religious views as well as political views, habits of going to church, of receiving Holy Communion, of prayer and reading the Bible. The paths which adult feet travel find their origin in childhood, and one way is as likely to be traveled as another, if started upon in the preschool days.
