Camp Organisation : A Guide To Youth Education Officers And Teachers On Camp Organisation, Youth Education Branch Education Department Of Western Australia

Research outputs pre 2011

The value of outdoor experiences for school students, through the use of the outdoors as an educational laboratory has long been recognised as a means of integrating and extending curricula.

The rapid urbanisation of society is depriving children and youth of many learning opportunities which would extend their total educational experience.

As educators, therefore, we have the responsibility to develop in our students, awareness and concern for the proper use and enjoyment of our natural resources.

Outdoor education, as an integral part of the school curriculum satisfies the fundamental need to experience and understand the forces of nature in a …

A Survey Of Reinforcement Preferences: Research Bulletin Number 3, L. J. Thompson

Research outputs pre 2011

Anyone who visits the primary school classroom in 1977 will observe that many teachers are implementing planned programmes of reinforcement. Behaviour modification programmes, contingency contracting, 'token-economies 1 are increasingly becoming features of a normal classroom programme. However, one would also observe that although more primary teachers are implementing planned programmes of reinforcement, the actual reinforcers being used are much the same as they always have been. Ticks, stamps, stars, prevalent in most classroom programmes of reinforcement today have been used as reinforcers from almost the very first days of formalized classroom teaching, Teachers continue to rely heavily on; written and …

Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts Jan 1978

Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts

Research outputs pre 2011

Any consideration of the structure of pre-service teacher education must take account of the long-standing and still-continuing debate on the relative merits of consecutive and concurrent patterns of training. The co-existence of both approaches - the universities with degree courses followed by one-year professional training and the majority of colleges of advanced education with concurrent course structures - shows that not only are both systems viable but that neither can claim significant superiority. It is often argued that the concurrent pattern is more suited to the training of primary school teachers while the consecutive pattern, particularly in the university context, …

The Development Of English As A Second Language In Aboriginal And Migrant Children : A Pilot Study, A. L. Mcgregor

Research outputs pre 2011

Research programs developed in Queensland under the Van Leer Foundation Project and the Mount Gravatt Teachers College Language Research Project have yielded practicable approaches for the gathering and analysis of speech data from children of various age groups. On the basis of this research it has been possible to study patterns of language development in first language and to develop appropriate literacy materials for children at various levels of primary education. To date comparatively little is known about patterns of second language development. The question as to whether structures develop in the same sequence and at the same rates as …

A Comparative Study Of The Effects Of Two Approaches To Teaching Reading Comprehension On Achievement Of Fourth And Fifth Grade Students Of Middle And Low Socioeconomic Status, Alfred John Gordon

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Problem: The problem was divided into two parts. The first part investigated the question whether students who were taught reading comprehension skills by the PIRAMID objective-based approach showed a greater gain than students who were taught the same skills by use of the basal reader approach. The second part was to ascertain the degree of concordance between results of the criterion-referenced test (CRT) and results of the norm-referenced test (NRT).

Purpose: The purpose was twofold: (1) to compare gains in reading comprehension achievement of an experimental group with gains of a control group, and (2) to compare the pretest and …

An Analysis Of Attitudes Toward Fine Arts Education Among Nevada State Legislators, Lobbyists, School Board Trustees, Superintendents, Curriculum Coordinators, Principals, Fine Arts Educators, And Other Educators In Nevada Public Schools, Jocelyn Kaye Jensen

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Because of current prevailing educational and negative financial trends, a concern for the place of the fine arts in the curricula of the nation's public schools has been evidenced among various writers and curriculum experts. Music, visual arts, drama, and dance classes were being indiscriminately eliminated from educational instructional programs throughout the country. Remedial courses were taking the place of electives. Fine arts educators, among others, were also being assigned to teach in areas outside their major subject expertise. Many of these happenings came about because of newly mandated competency testing and back-to-basics instruction. Competency-based testing and instruction were mandated …

Extensive revision to reduce. the length of the assessment and to simplify its administration was then accomplished. A Longitudinal Study Of The Effects Of Eighth Grade Career Counseling And Guidance On Eleventh Grade Occupational Interests As Measured By The Ohio Vocational Interest Survey., Norma Jean Gates

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Students have reacted positively to personal contact with school counselors in regard to learning about themselves in relationship to potential career goals. There appears to be a need, however, to ascertain the effect of career counseling at the upper elementary grades upon career awareness and development at a later secondary grade. In addition, there is a need to study the effects of individual versus group career guidance at the upper elementary grades with reference to the career choices selected at a later secondary grade.

The Work-Study Innovative Teaching Programme : Report Of An Innovative Teacher Education Project, John Hammond (Ed.) Jan 1978

The Work-Study Innovative Teaching Programme : Report Of An Innovative Teacher Education Project, John Hammond (Ed.)

Research outputs pre 2011

This report concerns the Work-Study Innovative Teaching Programme (hereafter referred to as WSITP), which was developed during 1975-1977 at Churchlands College, Western Australia. WSITP proposes a developmental approach to continuous long-term practice teaching and concurrent related lecture experiences as a means of assisting student teachers in their search for personal meanings about teaching and about themselves, and poses an alternative to the traditional teacher education model (such as the one at Churchlands) which tends to consist of compartmentalised college courses in prescribed areas of personal and professional development on the one hand, and distinctly separate periods of practice teaching on …

Attitudes Toward Women Held By California School District Board Members, Superintendents, And Personnel Directors Including A Review Of The Historical, Psychological, And Sociological Foundations., Hilda Nees Beck

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Problem: Women, although comprising the preponderance of the teaching force, are represented in small numbers at higher level school district administrative positions. Their numbers have been decreasing :in California despite federal and state laws mandating equal opportunities for women. The low proportion of women in these positions has been attributed to their lack of qualifications, their lack of aspiration, and their poorer performance as administrators. Others have cited such factors as discriminatory policies and practices of school districts and the attitude toward women held by those who select administrators and responsible for that.under representation of women at higher levels. These …
