This thesis is the description, defense and critique of a course developed to teach gospel principles to 7- through 9-year-old children. The development process through which the course went, its formative evaluations and summative evaluation are described. The summative evaluation employed the pretest-posttest control group design. Thirty children, ages 7 through 9, were in the evaluation. After the pretest, 15 of the children were taught the 19-lesson course by their parents during a 23-day period. A statistical comparison of the mean pretest-posttest gain scores for the experimental group could significantly more accurately identify examples and non examples of fatih, agency, …

Tenure occupies an important place in the mind of any new teacher. During the past survey year, the Kentucky courts have demonstrated that this status is not only important to teachers generally; it is essential to continued job security. The aegis of tenure provides not only the substance of teachers’ rights but also the procedure used to protect those rights.
Discharged teachers have alleged violations of the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution in both its equal protection and due process aspects and violations of the Kentucky constitution. However, in each instance the courts have summarily dismissed these claims, preferring …

Educational Malpractice: When Can Johnny Sue?

This comment explores three avenues to pursue educational malpractice suits. First, a negligence action for malpractice. Second, a cause of action for negligent misrepresentation. And finally, an action sounding in negligence for breach of statutory duty. Each avenue is explored in detail in terms of the likelihood of success. Importantly, the comment recognizes the inherent difficult of pursuing any education malpractice claim.

This project presents a faculty handbook prepared for the staff at Tahoma Junior High School in Maple Valley, Washington, The handbook was designed with two main purposes in mind: 1) to establish two-way communication among staff members as well as staff and administration; and 2) to render the educational process more efficient. The handbook includes fifteen major sections dealing with such topics as duties, rights and responsibilities, school policy and procedures, evaluation, and scheduling. It also includes copies of the forms a teacher will be confronted with through the school year. It was found that a handbook is a credible …

This project presents a proposed policy handbook to the board of directors of the Union Gap School District which will replace the present outdated handbook. Prior to writing the new policies, a review was made of educational literature on policy development, the Union Gap School District's board minutes, and surrounding school districts policy handbooks. The policies from the surrounding school districts were categorized according to subject matter, and, utilizing these policies along with a close communication with the school board and the superintendent, new policies were developed that would meet the unique needs of the Union Gap School District.

This thesis research provided background for the Iowa Association of Elementary Principals on the current status of early childhood education in the fifty states. It also determined the support for mandatory kindergarten and optional pre-kindergarten programs among elementary principals and kindergarten teachers in Iowa. This data was sought to provide information for the Iowa Association of Elementary School Principals for possible legislation requiring mandatory kindergarten and optional prekindergarten programs in Iowa.

The following expanded brief originating from the above recommendation was given to the committee:- "Many graduates returning to College on ex-students' day as well as students on practice reported that they had found difficulties in handling classes that contained Aboriginal and part Aboriginal students, and suggested that the College should do more to prepare students in this area. A conference on Aboriginal Education held at Mount Lawley College in 1977 made recommendations on the place of Aboriginal Education in initial teaching training.

Teachers' reactions to an implemented competency based education program were evaluated. Twenty-four high school teachers were asked to fill out a questionnaire concerning competency based education. It was concluded that teachers understand competency based education and its components. The majority of teachers performed tasks related to competency based education. Teachers did not change their course content nor evaluation methods to accommodate competency based education. Teachers have varied opinions on the virtues of competency based education and their major concern is record keeping processes. Implications of the competency based education innovation arc discussed.

The primary problem addressed in this study involved integration of the finding of the vast body of reading literature to determine if college and university reading-study programs generally prove beneficial to those participating in them. Included within this question were the following sub-problems: (1) For what student groups were college reading-study programs designed? Were programs designed to fulfill remedial/corrective, supportive, developmental or other as yet unspecified functions?; (2) What program content and program operation factors were identified within program reports?; and (3) What relationship, if any, exists between these program content and operation factors and reported program effects?

The purpose of this project was to investigate whether there was a significant difference in the adherence to conventional morality and the reaction to social pressure from adults versus peers among Mexican, Mexican-American, and Anglo-American children. The instrument used was the Moral Dilemmas Test (MDT) developed by Bronfenbrenner, Devereux, Suci, and Rodgers, which measures the reported readiness of children to engage in morally disapproved behavior and their reaction to social pressure exerted by adults and peers. Originated by current demands for accountability in schools and resultant appeals for a return to the use of scholastic feedback, this study investigated the effects of feedback in light of certain characteristics of learning, and in light of student characteristics such as ability, age, and sex. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of specific informational feedback on hierarchical learning in a controlled laboratory setting, using the experimental controls inherent in identical twins. Purpose: The purpose of this dissertation was to verify research information concerning perceived locus of control (PLC) on a population sample composed of 154 Filipino-American students in Stockton Unified School District. Perceived locus of control is a personality construct derived from Julian Rotter's social learning theory. Rotter posits that the probability of the occurrence of a particular behavior is determined, not only by the importance of the goal to the individual, but also by his expectancy that this goal will be achieved as a consequence of the behavior. In February, 1978, Mount Lawley College agreed to undertake an evaluation of the Balga Special School for the Education Department of Western Australia. Preliminary discussions were held with the Superintendent of the Research Branch and the Principal of Balga Special School. The purpose was to determine the parameters of the evaluation.
It was agreed that the College was to be responsible for the conceptual framework of the program. It was also agreed that this framework was to be approved by the Superintendent of the Research Branch and the Principal of the Balga Special School.

The composition of the student population in secondary schools in Western Australia has changed considerably in recent years. The overall increase in the number of students being retained in school at all levels of secondary education has resulted in a growing number of children of Aboriginal/part Aboriginal and/or migrant parents in the secondary streams. These children who previously tended to finish their schooling in the primary school are now entering secondary schools to complete their education.

This survey of graduates with the Diploma of Teaching (Science) was conducted with the intention of providing Science Department Staff of the N.C.A.E. with information which would allow changes to be made that would more accurately meet the needs of their students.
