A Qualitative Evaluation Of The Louisiana Cooperative Extension Issues Programming Process Using Focus Group Interviews., Fred Eugene Baker

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Evaluating programs is a necessary and vital function in the management of all organizations. In 1988, the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service (LCES) began an intensive statewide process entitled "Issues Programming". This is a qualitative evaluation of that process. The study focused on the perceptions of extension agents and community leaders who participated in the process. Four focus group interviews were conducted, two each for agents and leaders. Geographic site selection provided for participant inclusion from all LCES administrative areas. Volunteer Assisted Reading, Linda Laurene Young Jan 1992

Volunteer Assisted Reading, Linda Laurene Young

All Graduate Projects

The problem investigated in this study relates to the need in schools today to find ways of providing educational support assistance for classroom teachers as part of the classroom learning process. With the continued rise in school enrollments, it is difficult for school funding to keep up with growing educational demands. Favorable student-teacher ratio issues emphasize the need to provide additional help for the classroom teacher. Finding additional classroom help has become a major concern; parents' commitments to employment and social obligations have changed their availability to participate at the schoolhouse and have lessened parent-child contact time (Cassidy, 1981). According …

Wild Louisiana is Science-Technology-Society (STS) oriented and infuses regionally based instructional videos and simulation-gaming activities into the secondary science curriculum. The videos and activities depict the confluence of regional biological, technical, and social phenomena to illustrate universal environmental concepts. The multimedia, modular approach is intended to address the varied learning styles of different students. Following random selection, teachers were randomly assigned to …

Silence (And Its Voluble Partner), Andrew Taylor Jan 1992

Silence (And Its Voluble Partner), Andrew Taylor

Research outputs pre 2011

Silence may traditionally have been golden, but how is it valued today? Can it survive the impact of a technology which can, and does, bring the apparently irresistible seductions of noise to the remotest parts of the world, and which invades the most reclusive aspects of our lives? And what place has silence in a culture such as ours which classifies it as "unproductive"?

But what is silence anyway?

Professor Taylor considers two ways in which, from the Romantic period onward, silence has been conceived. One tradition equates silence with Truth itself; the other considers it the condition which enables …

Symposium: Brown V. Board Of Education And Its Legacy: A Tribute To Justice Thurgood Marshall, Public Law Litigation And The Ambiguties Of Brown, Mark Tushnet

Fordham Law Review

Professor Tushnet posits that the Supreme Court's concern for gradually carrying out desegregation in the public schools ironically gave rise to "'public law litigation"---an aggressive form ofjudicial review. Specifically. Professor Tushnet argues that the "all deliberate speed" standard, which separated the right from the remedy, enabled the courts to become a more powerful institution in shaping social policy. Throughout his speech, Professor Tushnet provides insight into the thought processes of the Supreme Court justices at the time of the Brown decision.
