Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz Sep 1955

Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz

Concordia Theological Monthly

Roman Catholic child welfare is concerned with the dependent child, including the delinquent child, which for one reason or another has gone wrong. Roman Catholic social workers recognize the change that has taken place from the days when education was the distinctive function of the home-first, on the mother's knee, and then beside the father in the fields to the present time, when this function has largely been institutionalized and schools for the most part exercise this responsibility.

A Comparative Study Of The Mexican-Indian Students In The Carbon County Schools, John C. Winn May 1955

A Comparative Study Of The Mexican-Indian Students In The Carbon County Schools, John C. Winn

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Often expressed claims which amounted to a general belief among many of the administrators of the schools of Carbon County were the stimulus for this study. The claims generally expressed were that the Mexican-Indian students of the schools did not have as good ability, did not achieve as well, were poorer attenders, caused a larger amount of difficulty and delinquency and did not adjust to the school society as well proportionately as their co-students of other nationalities. It was stated that while many nationality groups were represented in the school population, that other groups were oriented, assimilated and amalgamated into …

The Juarez Stake Academy, Dale M. Valentine Jan 1955

The Juarez Stake Academy, Dale M. Valentine

Theses and Dissertations

While the history of the Latter-day Saints who colonized in Mexico is probably not generally known by the majority of Latter-day Saints living throughout the world today, it nevertheless comprises an exceptionally colorful and exciting chapter of the history of Mormonism. The Latter-day Saints who went to Mexico created there a culture and society which has never been duplicated. Probably one of the chief concerns of the Mormon Colonists in Mexico was to establish in their society a culture which would be lastingly enduring and which would progressively improve. Secondly, it is also probable that they were passionately desirous of …

A History Of Education In Calaveras County, California, 1850 To 1900, David Guinn Kenfield

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The rush to California brought a variety of people. There were the outcasts, the adventurers, the abandoned, the vigorous, the enterprising, and the progressive. They came from the east, south, New England, and the frontier of 1849. Many came from Europe. They came solely for gold. Man were single, many were married. Some never intended to return to their families; others planned on making their fortune and returning quickly. The thought of schools found little place in their minds.

This lack of thought sprang from two sources. First, their own lack of education tended to keep back any interest in …
