Trends In Speech Therapy In The Elementary Public Schools Of The United States, Joyce V. Broseman Weaver Mar 1956

Trends In Speech Therapy In The Elementary Public Schools Of The United States, Joyce V. Broseman Weaver

Student Work

One of the most significant developments in the American Educational System has been the extension of instructional services to Exceptional Children. The term “exceptional children” has come to be applied to children who need special services because of physical, intellectual or personal-social differences from other children. In no other aspect has this development meant so much as it has in rendering educational assistance to the children with speech defects. Educators have long realized the importance of speech in the conduction of everyday life, but until recent years speech therapy had shown little progress.

An Evaluation Of One-Year Shorthand Programs In Secondary Schools With Particular Reference To The Public Secondary Schools Of Iowa, Darrell G. Jones

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Increasing demands are being made of school administrators to enrich the curriculums of the secondary schools. The curriculums of many secondary schools are already expanded to the bursting point. Nevertheless, pupil needs must be satisfied. A careful scrutiny must be made of each offering in the secondary school curriculum. It must be determined whether or not each offering is justified. As the number of offerings in the curriculum must be limited, the curriculum offerings should be constantly reappraised. This study is intended to serve as an evaluative aid in the consideration of the place of the one-year shorthand program in …

Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz Sep 1955

Roman Catholic Child Welfare In The United States, Lewis W. Spitz

Concordia Theological Monthly

Roman Catholic child welfare is concerned with the dependent child, including the delinquent child, which for one reason or another has gone wrong. Roman Catholic social workers recognize the change that has taken place from the days when education was the distinctive function of the home-first, on the mother's knee, and then beside the father in the fields to the present time, when this function has largely been institutionalized and schools for the most part exercise this responsibility.

The purpose of this study was not to determine all those attitudes which affect a student’s decision to remain in or leave the college. It was rather to survey the attitudes and opinions of the members of a group which had already left the college before completion of their studies insofar as Central Washington College was concerned. Three factors were determined on the basis of their proximity to the lives of the students and their concomitant effect on the attitudes of those students.

The Relationship Between The Church's Program For Ministerial Training And Her Mission Program, W. C. Birkner Sep 1954

The Relationship Between The Church's Program For Ministerial Training And Her Mission Program, W. C. Birkner

Concordia Theological Monthly

The formulation of the theme to which I am to address myself indicates that our Church has become aware that the relationship of two vital parts of her program, namely, Missions and Ministerial Training, deserves some attention and a closer scrutiny at this time. The fact that occasionally the expressions "problem," or "dilemma," or "difficulty," or even "rivalry" are heard when the relationship of these two areas of activity is under discussion, is in itself an admission that this question has not always been clearly defined and a confession that not all members of the Church have arrived at the …
