The Wooster Voice (Wooster, Oh), 1946-05-02, Wooster Voice Editors

The Voice: 1941-1950

In a follow-up to an article about the petition to instate food rationing, this weeks issue of the newspaper features a large article about the newly voted upon Food Conservation Program at the college. On the upcoming Saturday, Wooster served its first "Famine Meal" across campus. The meal received 80% approval from students, and so it was decided that the program would continue in future weeks. The conservation program will consist of the dining halls serving less wheat products every week and a less expensive meal once a week. The third page of the newspaper announces a win in track …

The Wooster Voice (Wooster, Oh), 1946-04-25, Wooster Voice Editors

The Voice: 1941-1950

The headline article of this edition of the Wooster Voice is on the subject of food rationing for Wooster students. The student body was given the opportunity to sign a petition that would support the demand of food rationing. The desire to ration food at the college is born from the food problem and starvation that was happening overseas (in Europe) at the time. The post-war climate in Europe caused students to take into consideration the needs of the less fortunate. One of the suggestions of the petition is that once a week, the cafeteria serves a less expensive meal, …

Man is reciprocal:

The function of man's education is concerned with the dynamics of the reciprocity between man as the in- individual and man as a social group. It becomes the specific responsibility of the school to provide valid experiences through which each student as an individual master the means, the methods, the understandings, the strategies, the philosophy requisite to successful operation of such harmonics as exist or possibly may exist between himself and the group of which he is or may be an integral part.

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies

While the majority of parents, teachers and administrators are fully aware of the importance of a program of hearing conservation in the schools and readily endorse one, I am convinced that they are not aware of the serious inadequacies of the method of testing the hearing ability of school children that is generally used throughout the state of Washington.

This isn't a discussion of whether we spend too much or too little for education. The true American patriot would spend his last dollar to insure our democracy as our way of life. Through armed force we have reffirmed our right to live in a democratic society, but only through exended public education can we be assured that our people will continue to want to live in a democracy and that thev will know how to live in the American way. America for these reasons can afford free public education at any cost. This is, rather than a discussion of …

History And Educational Philosophy Of Seventh-Day Adventist Secondary Schools, Carl William Shafer Jan 1945

History And Educational Philosophy Of Seventh-Day Adventist Secondary Schools, Carl William Shafer

Master's Theses

In introducing this subject, History and Educational Philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist Secondary Schools, it is important first that the need and purpose of Christian education be stated. If there is no real need or no real purpose, then Seventh-day Adventists have no right to sacrifice their means and energies in the establishing and maintaining of these secondary schools the world over.

Seventh-day Adventists have believed, from the beginning of their movement, that Christian education is the only answer to the education of the full man. All great educators agree that if education does what it should do, it develops the …
