This study has attempted to determine the forces which influenced the development of Dixie College from its inception as a church oriented Academy in 1871 to its becoming a state supported institution under the Utah Public School System in 1935. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether it was possible to develop an effective consolidation plan which would result in greater equalization of financial resources, more equitable tax structures and an increase in the revenue available for school support among California school districts within the requirements established by the Serrano v. Priest case.

PROBLEM: The problem of this study is to determine the extent to which eighth grade students understand quantitative concepts expressed in United States History textbooks.

PURPOSE: This investigation was conducted to explore the types of quantitative concepts found in eighth grade United States History textbooks, the students' understanding of these concepts, and the relationship between their understanding of these concepts and the variables of math achievement, reading achievement, and grade point average.

Guy Bruce was a chairman of the Science Department at New Jersey State Normal School/Teachers College (a two-year teaching program, that became Newark State College, and then eventually Kean) from 1932-1951. A study on the influence of nutrition education experiences was conducted in the Child Development Preschool Laboratory at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City, Utah, with thirty-two preschool children. Sixteen of the children were exposed to nutrition experiences through food activities and stories.

It was found that the sixteen children who were involved in the fifteen nutrition experiences significantly increased their knowledge of nutrition concepts and further modified their own personal food choices. The control group, which was not exposed to nutrition activities, made no significant change in knowledge of nutrition concepts and no modification of personal food choices. …

The purpose of this study was to compare the expectations as to the role and function of the country school superintendent of schools in California as perceived by county school superintendents and four of their referent groups. Specifically, and examination was made of the similarities and differences existing between and-or among the following two sets of data: (1) county superindendent’s perceptions of judgments about selected functions pertaining to their role as administrator and (2) the judgements or expectations of four referent groups, i.e., state legislators, county school boards, district school boards and district school superintendents.
