Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts
Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts
Research outputs pre 2011
Any consideration of the structure of pre-service teacher education must take account of the long-standing and still-continuing debate on the relative merits of consecutive and concurrent patterns of training. The co-existence of both approaches - the universities with degree courses followed by one-year professional training and the majority of colleges of advanced education with concurrent course structures - shows that not only are both systems viable but that neither can claim significant superiority. It is often argued that the concurrent pattern is more suited to the training of primary school teachers while the consecutive pattern, particularly in the university context, …

The Development Of English As A Second Language In Aboriginal And Migrant Children : A Pilot Study, A. L. Mcgregor
Research outputs pre 2011
Research programs developed in Queensland under the Van Leer Foundation Project and the Mount Gravatt Teachers College Language Research Project have yielded practicable approaches for the gathering and analysis of speech data from children of various age groups. On the basis of this research it has been possible to study patterns of language development in first language and to develop appropriate literacy materials for children at various levels of primary education. To date comparatively little is known about patterns of second language development. The question as to whether structures develop in the same sequence and at the same rates as …
Evolution Of The English Education Act Of 1944, Joan Ann Billings
Evolution Of The English Education Act Of 1944, Joan Ann Billings
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1970 - 1979
The purpose of this Master's Thesis is to refute the accepted belief that the English Education Act of 1944 was truly revolutionary as many historians would have es believe. By way of explanation, during World War II, the National Board of Education in England, under the guidance of Herwald Ramsbotham, began the tedious process of developing a thoroughly democratic system of education for England. In the end, leading politicians and writers of the decade claimed that the Board's reforms truly revolutionized the overall system of education in England. Yet, the average child attending one of the state or religious schools …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
PURPOSE: This study constructed an assessment instrument for the use of teachers and their assistants in preschool education programs. It also established measures of reliability and validity of that instrument.
PROCEDURES: Initially, extant assessment instruments were scrutinized. From ideas generated by the best of these instruments and from lists of competencies necessary for academic success in grade one of public schools, the first draft of the instrument was prepared. Extensive revision to reduce. the length of the assessment and to simplify its administration was then accomplished. The second edition was then field-tested in preschool centers to ascertain whether (a) the …

A Study Of The Growth In English Proficiency Of Omaha Public High School Students Enrolled In Traditional And Non-Traditional Programs, Lillian Planteen
A Study Of The Growth In English Proficiency Of Omaha Public High School Students Enrolled In Traditional And Non-Traditional Programs, Lillian Planteen
Student Work
Since the fall of 1970, an elective English program has been available for senior high students in the Omaha Public Schools. Although all senior high schools have sampled the program called Special-Interest English, only four of the eight high schools have adopted it in total. Since its inception, the program has become increasingly sophisticated developing somewhat differently in each school. Technical High School, which adopted the elective program, has now expanded it into an individualized program so unique and complex that that school will not be included in this study.
