The Performance Of Artificial Intelligence In Lesson Plans, Meghan Mezzacapo
The Performance Of Artificial Intelligence In Lesson Plans, Meghan Mezzacapo
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
As a future teacher, I have recently observed the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. Many of the classes in my teacher education program have encouraged me to use AI as a tool for creating lesson plans. In schools, I have noticed an increased expectation from administrators that teachers use AI in the classroom. After experimenting with various Artificial Intelligence generators, I became interested in whether these tools could create a better lesson plan than myself. Determining AI’s capability may benefit teachers by allowing them to spend less time on creating lesson plans and more time on other …
Cyberbullying As A Contemporary Human Rights Violation Of Youth In Digital Media: A Study Of India, Brazil, And South Africa, Laura Ferla Tuma
Cyberbullying As A Contemporary Human Rights Violation Of Youth In Digital Media: A Study Of India, Brazil, And South Africa, Laura Ferla Tuma
American University International Law Review
The COVID-19 pandemic facilitated a technological migration not only among adults but also among children and adolescents. Digital media became the alternative for young individuals to maintain their activities, especially school-related ones. They shared virtual classrooms, used the internet for entertainment, and were forced to socialize exclusively in digital environments for months. Connected time increased, and the world witnessed a new phenomenon: hyperconnectivity.

Examining The Impact African American Male Teachers Have On The Math Scores Of Underserved Students, Demetrice Thomas
Examining The Impact African American Male Teachers Have On The Math Scores Of Underserved Students, Demetrice Thomas
Graduate Thesis and Dissertation post-2024
This study contributed to a growing body of evidence emphasizing that teacher identity profoundly influences not only how students learn but also how they perceive themselves and their potential. As Gershenson (2022) noted, “Black teachers provide benefits to all students, fostering higher achievement and stronger aspirations,” highlighting the essential role of diverse educators in shaping student success. Consistent academic gains observed among students taught by African American male teachers reinforce the urgent need for educational systems to prioritize equity not only in student outcomes but also in diversifying the teaching workforce. Despite African American male teachers comprising less than 2% …

Beyond Entertainment – An Analysis Of Minecraft: Education Edition As An Inclusive Educational Platform For Diverse Learners, Herschel Meusa
Selected Full-Text Master Theses 2021-
Minecraft: Education Edition is examined as an interactive and educational media object and art form. Through an analysis of its game's UI, interactive design, and user-friendliness, players are immersed in the game. Although Minecraft provides an open-ended design that fosters creativity, freedom, and collaborative learning, its structured instructional scaffolding, adaptive difficulty, and comprehensive accessibility features make it less inclusive for all learners. This thesis argues that these gaps serve as warnings to educational Media Arts practitioners working on interactive media design and lessons about interface design, user agency, and inclusion in game mechanics. This research examines the structure of Minecraft …

Podcasting as a means of educational delivery has been slowly increasing since the introduction of podcasting to the consciousness of the general public in 2004. In parallel, social work education has experienced a global increase in online and remote delivery. Social workers globally have embraced social work content podcasts as a means of providing, and supplementing, their traditional pedagogy. In this article, the authors, both international podcasting social work academics, present an innovative framework for podcasting pedagogy and discuss co-production of podcasts as a form of teaching and learning co-design that is grounded in social work approaches to knowledge creation, …
Death And Dying Across The Lifespan, Paige Sala
Death And Dying Across The Lifespan, Paige Sala
Entry Level Occupational Therapy Doctoral Capstone Projects Class of 2025
Death and Dying Across The Lifespan centers on the creation of three interdisciplinary educational courses focused on end-of-life care for three distinct age groups: geriatrics, adults, and pediatrics. The courses aim to improve undergraduate students’ competence in addressing death and dying with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals within the team. The courses were developed in response to growing evidence that supports the need for education on death, dying, and caring for individuals at the end of life. Many students are not adequately exposed to these topics in current curricula, despite the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in this area of …

The Preferred Leadership Styles Of Generation Z Public Educators, Rex Booth
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Amid declining enrollments in teacher preparation programs and increasing teacher turnover, understanding the characteristics of Generation Z, who constitute a substantial portion of the future workforce, is critical for effective recruitment and retention in education. This quantitative study explored the preferred leadership styles of Generation Z public educators in western Kentucky using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Specifically, it examined preferences for transformational, transactional, and passive-avoidant leadership styles and assessed whether these preferences varied by race, gender, or years of experience. Results revealed a strong preference for transformational leadership, followed by transactional leadership, with a clear aversion to passive-avoidant approaches. …

Reproductive Health Education In Ghana: Perspectives Of School Health Education Programme (Shep) Coordinators, Population Council, Msi Reproductive Choices, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service
Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Choices
Schools in Ghana have integrated reproductive health education (RHE) topics into their curricula and School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinators recognize the importance of RHE. However, for RHE to reach its full potential, it needs to be established as a stand-alone subject. This study highlights the challenges and opportunities in delivering in-school RHE, underscoring the interplay between policy frameworks, implementation strategies, and locally accepted approaches.

The Experience Of Child Language Brokering In Latin/Hispanic Students: Understanding How Clb Shapes Attitudes Towards Higher Education, Noemi Maldonado
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Immigrants often pursuing a better life than that in their own places of birth migrate to the states. In order to make lives in the states they bring their families with them or begin to create their own already inside the host country. With little knowledge of the place, they arrive and with nothing more than the help of their children, they seek to find a place in the society they became a part of. Immigrant children or those who come from migrant families often must help their parents, caretakers, or extended family manage the English language and American culture …

Afghan Students Are More Than Just English Learners, Farilla Saboor
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
This thesis examines the strengths that Afghan students and their families bring to U.S. schools and how these strengths are often overlooked. Drawing on my experience as an Afghan immigrant, math teacher, and bilingual instructional aide, I explore how Afghan students, parents, and teachers describe these cultural, linguistic, and relational assets that shape students’ learning and sense of belonging. I use the Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) and Funds of Knowledge (FoK) as guiding frameworks to understand the aspirational, linguistic, familial, social, navigational, and resistant capital present in participants’ experiences (Moll et al., 1992; Yosso, 2005).
I conducted qualitative interviews with …

Exploring The Teaching Methods And Approaches Used By Australian Educators To Teach Occupation, Melanie J. Roberts, Barb Hooper, Bernadette Sebar, Jim Woodburn
Journal of Occupational Therapy Education
Occupational therapy education standards for teaching occupation are inconsistently applied and there is a lack of evidence to inform teaching practice in Australia. This qualitative study explored what teaching methods and approaches Australian occupational therapy educators used in their classroom, and why those methods were used. The research was completed in two phases: narrative inquiry guided Phase I where educators were interviewed about the methods and approaches used to teach occupation. In Phase II video-reflexive ethnography was implemented, where a video recording of teaching was used as a prompt for a reflexive discussion about the educator’s teaching approaches. The interviews …

Data collected from cohorts in 2021 and 2022 were contrasted with those previously reported for 2019 and 2020, highlighting how these patterns evolved over time. Notable changes in time use were identified between the 2021 and 2022 cohorts. In 2022, students reported increased time spent in class and in driving/community mobility, while their time dedicated to physical activity, health maintenance, and family interactions declined. The analysis revealed the complexity of students' time use due …
“Change Is Inevitable”: How The First Amendment Safety-Valve Theory Can Expand Protections For Student Expression, Leslie Klein, Jonathan Peters
“Change Is Inevitable”: How The First Amendment Safety-Valve Theory Can Expand Protections For Student Expression, Leslie Klein, Jonathan Peters
Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality
This article challenges the traditional notion that the regulation and protection of student expression in public schools should be based primarily or exclusively on the marketplace theory, which often reinforces the status quo. The safety valve theory is more appropriate and should be applied, especially in the current political and social climate, to inspire an expansion of student speech and press rights that would support expressive activities seeking to change the public discourse around important issues. Students who can speak freely will be more willing to accept decisions that go against them, and a school environment in which passionate or …
An Argument For A Right To Education For Undocumented Youth In Light Of Daca’S Uncertain Future, Minnie Blackman
An Argument For A Right To Education For Undocumented Youth In Light Of Daca’S Uncertain Future, Minnie Blackman
Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality
Undocumented youth are facing increasingly difficult circumstances in which to integrate into U.S. society both socially and economically. A primary reason for this phenomenon is the current antagonistic sentiments surrounding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. These sentiments have created a lack of trust in this program, with fewer undocumented youth applying for DACA status, which would allow many of them to apply to public colleges and universities at in-state tuition rates. Previous research has implied that state laws have the potential to create a property interest in education, and, as such, it must be protected from arbitrary …
Teaching Ai Through Student Research Projects: A Short Guide, Inesa Stolper
Teaching Ai Through Student Research Projects: A Short Guide, Inesa Stolper
GHEA21 Open Educational Resources
This guide is based on practical experience designing and supervising research-based projects on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of social sciences and humanities education. Teaching about AI in these disciplines often presents specific challenges: the fast-changing nature of the field, the difficulty of connecting abstract concepts to real-world implications, and the need to make technical developments accessible without oversimplifying them. Moreover, traditional forms of assessment, such as essays, are being reshaped by the growing use of generative AI.
In this context, short research-based projects offer an engaging and flexible alternative. They encourage students to take ownership of their learning, …

The Adelante Academy: A Pathway To Success For Fgli Latine High School Students In Santa Ana, Ca, Seleny Arroyo Ms.
Scripps Senior Theses
My thesis project focuses on the diverse experiences of first-generation, low-income (FGLI) Latine high school students in the Adelante Academy, a rigorous university preparatory program at Fairview High School, from 2016 to 2021. Fairview High School is a public high school in Santa Ana, CA. Rather than focusing on tracking student performance and post-secondary outcomes, I center the experiences of students—their beliefs, ideologies, academic goals, and overall takeaways—of participating in the Adelante Academy. I employ a three-part macro-meso-micro framework to situate and better understand the experiences of FGLI Latine students in the Adelante Academy from 2016 to 2021. This thesis …

Full Ride To College, But At What Cost?: Colonial Subjects At Imperial Educational Institutions In Binti And The Fifth Season, Martha Zornow
English Faculty Publications
A marginalized young person, often of a different physiognomy from those wielding power, sees the 'ivory tower' in her universe as a path to the learning, respect, power, and agency not available to her in her home environs. At their educational institutions, while their Blackness is not the basis for their outsider status, the Othering they experience mirrors that experienced by Black students at predominantly white universities in the real world. Theorizing the Colonial Role of Educational Institutions Following Thomas Macaulay's notorious' Minute on Education'(1835), educational systems have played a vital role in reaffirming the balance of power between the …

Optimizing Discharge Education For Patients With Heart Failure, Connie-Rose Pangan
Optimizing Discharge Education For Patients With Heart Failure, Connie-Rose Pangan
Nursing | Senior Theses
Noncompliance can be a result of a lack of comprehension of discharge instructions and a lack of concise, effective educational resources. Due to this deficit, patients with heart failure are less likely to comply with their discharge protocol and are therefore more likely to be readmitted to the hospital. The aim of the study is to consolidate a teaching method that accommodates one's existing educational barriers, implement follow-up to increase knowledge retention and improve self care, and prevent readmission among HF patients. Two hundred hospitalized, English-speaking patients with heart failure above 65 years old across 20 US Hospitals will be …
Should Students Pull The Plug?: How Ai Redefines Creativity In The Classroom, Labiba Hassan
Should Students Pull The Plug?: How Ai Redefines Creativity In The Classroom, Labiba Hassan
CMC Senior Theses
This paper examines how artificial intelligence (AI) tools, specifically ChatGPT as a tutor for students (ChatGPTt), reshapes creativity in the classroom. Does AI undermine or enrich creativity by altering its relational and self-disclosive dimensions? Engaging with Lindsay Brainard’s critique that AI erodes creativity by disrupting human connection and self-expression, I argue for a redefinition of creativity as a dynamic process sustained by emotion, intention, novelty, risk, and spontaneity — conditions adaptable to AI-mediated contexts. The paper challenges the premise that creativity depends on interpersonal connection, showing that self-disclosure can emerge through meaningful engagement with external systems, such as ChatGPTt. By …
Delinking Development: Material And Epistemic Justice And Caribbean Reparations, Tavis D. Jules, Nigel Brissett
Delinking Development: Material And Epistemic Justice And Caribbean Reparations, Tavis D. Jules, Nigel Brissett
Sustainability and Social Justice
In this conceptual paper, we consider novel avenues for development in the Anglophone Caribbean by addressing the historical heritage of chattel slavery, Indigenous dispossession, and extractive capitalism and their pivotal roles in shaping capitalist modernity. Our analysis encompasses the historical configurations of the development paradigm, elucidating the impact of colonial violence, extractive and racial capitalism, and the resulting material and epistemic repercussions. Positioned within the conceptual framework of reparations, we propose restructuring the aid system and asserting the right to epistemic autonomy as two strategic avenues for reshaping the current developmental trajectories of Caribbean societies.

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Faculty Publications
Despite attention to sociocultural issues in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), the role of Adapted Physical Education (APE) teachers as social justice advocates remains underexplored. A primary responsibility of APE teachers is to provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities (SWD), so they have access to the general physical education curriculum to make progress toward grade-level standards. This study presents a qualitative analysis of the perspectives of National Adapted Physical Education Teachers of the Year (APE TOYs) on advocating for social justice within PETE programs. A phenomenological approach with mixed-methods design was used. Findings emphasise the importance of fairness, …
