Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part Ii, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
Implementing Educational Software And Evaluating Its Academic Effectiveness: Part Ii, Karen Jolicoeur, Dale E. Berger
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
In Part I, published last month, we presented a successful classroom implementation plan for integrating educational software into elementary school classrooms. Implementing educational software successfully into classrooms is an essential prerequisite to achieving the second goal of the present research-evaluating how much students learned by using specific software programs. In Part II, we will measure how effective eight software programs were at teaching fifth grade students new fraction concepts and spelling words. In addition, we will examine the validity of teacher and student software ratings based on the effectiveness of each program.

A Comparison Of Role Expectations Between Catholic And Public Elementary School Principals, Joan Miller
A Comparison Of Role Expectations Between Catholic And Public Elementary School Principals, Joan Miller
Student Work
Despite the numerous descriptions of the role of the elementary principal written by professional organizations and by writers in the field of school administration, little information is available comparing the roles of the Catholic school elementary principal and the public school elementary principal. These distinct yet similar administrative roles deserve the attention of those in the field of education. Educational leader, communicator, manager, faith leader, staff developer, evaluator, prime teacher, pastoral leader, and public relations officer are a few of the diversified roles of the elementary principal described in related literature. While both the public school and the Catholic school …

Upward Mobility Determinants For The Elementary Principalship, Lynda S. Greene
Upward Mobility Determinants For The Elementary Principalship, Lynda S. Greene
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The primary objective of this study was to identify determinants of upward mobility for individuals who subsequently achieve elementary principalships. Since many educators aspire to elementary principalships, awareness of tangible and intangible determinants is important to principalship candidates in their upward movement to the elementary principalship. The basic research tool was a qualitative research interview. A purposive sample was used involving individuals with identified expertise and with access to certain desired information. Therefore, the study involved two levels of administrative personnel--superintendents who recommend and elementary principals who have been appointed to positions within school systems. The sample included 21 school …

Human thought is unique. We have the ability to create and share meaning through the use of various kinds of symbol systems. This study explored the shared dynamics of visual and verbal symbolic thought processes and their consequences for the acquisition of literacy. In particular, the study focused on the writing, reading, and drawing processes of the children in a process-based first-grade classroom.
Research methods included participant/observations, open-ended interviews, audio-taped classroom discussions and interviews, and samples of the writing and drawing of the children in the entire class, with a special focus on five of the students. A detailed analysis …
