The problem was addressed by the implementation of an interdisciplinary program to increase basic skills in all areas of the curriculum. Activities designed to increase the target group's understanding of social studies concepts while practicing skills in reading, language arts, math, and science were incorporated into all subject areas utilizing a whole language approach. An emphasis on critical thinking and daily news events allowed for student growth in inferential comprehension and the formation of attitudes about the world. The …

Kindergarten Teachers' Philosophies And Computer Use, Linda Jean Stewart

Student Work

Change and transition are words often heard and associated with the decade of the 1980's. John Naisbitt (1970) forecasted ten major changes in his book, Megatrends. The first chapter of that book predicted the movement in America from an industrial to an informational society. Innovations in communications and computer technology have accelerated this movement. A key point in that chapter described how the educational system was turning out an inferior product for an informational society in terms of basic reading and writing skills. Response to criticism of this kind has been to change school curriculum.

The result has been a proliferation of programs developed over the last few decades by American colleges and universities for international students desiring to study English and American culture. Many of these programs occur during the summer. A …

A Performance Appraisal Model For Postsecondary Education, Peggy Connolly

Dissertations and Theses

Purpose. Although performance appraisal is an important factor in the successful operation of organizations, it is often a difficult and threatening task. (2) What issues, patterns, and decisions concerning appraisal have been identified through the judicial process, and what degree of consistency has been shown …
