While Math Word Problem (MWP) solving has emerged as a popular field of study and made great progress in recent years, most existing methods are benchmarked solely on one or two datasets and implemented with different configurations. In this paper, we introduce the first open-source library for solving MWPs called MWPToolkit, which provides a unified, comprehensive, and extensible framework for the research purpose. Specifically, we deploy 17 deep learning-based MWP solvers and 6 MWP datasets in our toolkit. These MWP solvers are advanced models for MWP solving, covering the categories of Seq2seq, Seq2Tree, Graph2Tree, and Pre-trained Language Models. And these …

Regular pavement inspections are key to good road maintenance and road defect corrections. Advanced pavement inspection systems such as LCMS (Laser Crack Measurement System) can automatically detect the presence of different defects using 3D lasers. However, such systems still require manual involvement to complete the detection of pavement defects. This paper proposes an automatic patch detection system using object detection technique. To our knowledge, this is the first time state-of-the-art object detection models Faster RCNN, and SSD MobileNet-V2 have been used to detect patches inside images acquired by LCMS. Results show that the object detection model can successfully detect patches …

To reduce the energy-intensity and carbon footprint of Portland cement (PC), the prevailing practice embraced by concrete technologists is to partially replace the PC in concrete with supplementary cementitious materials [SCMs: geological materials (e.g., limestone); industrial by-products (e.g., fly ash); and processed materials (e.g., calcined clay)]. Chemistry and content of the SCM profoundly affect PC hydration kinetics; which, in turn, dictates the evolutions of microstructure and properties of the [PC + SCM] binder. Owing to the substantial diversity in SCMs' compositions-plus the massive combinatorial spaces, and the highly nonlinear and mutually-interacting processes that arise from SCM-PC interactions-state-of-the-art computational models are …

Integrated Gradients Is A Nonlinear Generalization Of The Industry Standard Approach To Variable Attribution For Credit Risk Models, Jonathan Boardman, Md Shafiul Alam, Xiao Huang, Ying Xie
Published and Grey Literature from PhD Candidates
In modern society, epistemic uncertainty limits trust in financial relationships, necessitating transparency and accountability mechanisms for both consumers and lenders. One upshot is that credit risk assessments must be explainable to the consumer. In the United States regulatory milieu, this entails both the identification of key factors in a decision and the provision of consistent actions that would improve standing. The traditionally accepted approach to explainable credit risk modeling involves generating scores with Generalized Linear Models (GLMs) - usually logistic regression, calculating the contribution of each predictor to the total points lost from the theoretical maximum, and generating reason codes …

Food retrieval is an important task to perform analysis of food-related information, where we are interested in retrieving relevant information about the queried food item such as ingredients, cooking instructions, etc. In this paper, we investigate cross-modal retrieval between food images and cooking recipes. The goal is to learn an embedding of images and recipes in a common feature space, such that the corresponding image-recipe embeddings lie close to one another. Two major challenges in addressing this problem are 1) large intra-variance and small inter-variance across cross-modal food data; and 2) difficulties in obtaining discriminative recipe representations. To address these …

Human beings express themselves via words, signs, gestures, and facial emotions. Previous research using pre-trained convolutional models had been done by freezing the entire network and running the models without the use of any image processing techniques. In this research, we attempt to enhance the accuracy of many deep CNN architectures like ResNet and Senet, using a variety of different image processing techniques like Image Data Generator, Histogram Equalization, and UnSharpMask. We used FER 2013, which is a dataset containing multiple classes of images. While working on these models, we decided to take things to the next level, and we …

Uav Position Estimation Using A Lidar-Based 3d Object Detection Method, Uthman Oladipo Olawoye
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
LiDAR-based object detection methods have drawn sufficient attention from academia and industry due to the increase in the use of the LiDAR sensor for autonomous driving. Insensitivity to light and the ability to capture high spatial information of the encircling environment coupled with the steady reduction in purchase cost are features that make the LiDAR appealing for autonomous driving. The detection methods can process and evaluate the sensor data to identify objects and calculate the relative position of the objects to the sensor. While these methods are currently applied to autonomous driving, they could also be used in robotics for …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Fashion is important both financially and for self-expression. There are many tasks in the fashion domain which can be addressed with artificial intelligence. The task of fashion compatibility prediction is to determine how well a set of items work together to form an outfit. Two main tasks are typically used to evaluate the performance of a fashion compatibility prediction model – Outfit Compatibility Prediction and Fill in the Blank.
In this work, a compatibility prediction model, which is based on the graph autoencoder, is evaluated. This same model is then used in a homogeneous ensemble learning approach, proposed to improve …
Learning Representations For Human Identification, Sinan Sabri
Learning Representations For Human Identification, Sinan Sabri
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Long-duration visual tracking of people requires the ability to link track snippets (a.k.a. tracklets) based on the identity of people. In lack of the availability of motion priors or hard biometrics (e.g., face, fingerprint, or iris), the common practice is to leverage soft biometrics for matching tracklets corresponding to the same person in different sightings. A common choice is to use the whole-body visual appearance of the person, as determined by the clothing, which is assumed to not change during tracking. The problem is challenging because distinct images of the same person may look very different, since no restrictions are …
Improving Feature Learning Capability And Interpretability Of Unsupervised Neural Networks, Chathurika S. Wickramasinghe Brahmana
Improving Feature Learning Capability And Interpretability Of Unsupervised Neural Networks, Chathurika S. Wickramasinghe Brahmana
Theses and Dissertations
The motivation for this dissertation is two-prong. Firstly, the current state of machine learning imposes the need for unsupervised Machine Learning (ML). Secondly, once such models are developed, a deeper understanding of ML models is necessary for humans to adapt and use such models.
Real-world systems generate massive amounts of unlabeled data at rapid speed, limiting the usability of state-of-the-art supervised machine learning approaches. Further, the manual labeling process is expensive, time-consuming, and requires the expertise of the data. Therefore, the existing supervised learning algorithms are unable to take advantage of the abundance of real-world unlabeled data. Thus, relying on …
Care-Resistant Behavior Trajectories Of Individuals Living With Dementia In Nursing Homes And Distal Outcomes In Oral Health: A Secondary Analysis, Chunhong Xiao

Persons living with dementia who exhibit care-resistant behaviors (CRB) are likely to resist mouth care and have poor oral health. Knowing the “balance” between providing optimal mouth care while managing CRB is critical for developing tailored interventions. No evidence has demonstrated a balance between CRB level, mouth care completion, and oral health status. The overarching goal of this study was to identify a balance or “sweet spot” between enough mouth care to maintain oral health and a manageable level of CRB intensity. The purpose of this study was to examine and describe the characteristics of CRB trajectories as they relate …

License Plate Image Quality Enhancement Utilizing Super Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks, Mark Moelter
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This thesis focuses primarily on enhancing the image quality of blurred license plates through the use of Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks (SRGANs) [1]. We propose a synthetic dataset with SRGAN model to promote blurred image quality enhancement, and allow for model evaluation on a multitude of image input and output size combinations. SRGAN is mainly used for low-resolution image enhancement, but by heavily blurring the input images, the model is tested on its ability to blindly deblur and upsample images to the desired super-resolution (SR) size. The model enhances the image quality to nearly that of the reference images. The …

Context: Deep learning (DL) techniques have gained significant popularity among software engineering (SE) researchers in recent years. This is because they can often solve many SE challenges without enormous manual feature engineering effort and complex domain knowledge. Objective: Although many DL studies have reported substantial advantages over other state-of-the-art models on effectiveness, they often ignore two factors: (1) reproducibility—whether the reported experimental results can be obtained by other researchers using authors’ artifacts (i.e., source code and datasets) with the same experimental setup; and (2) replicability—whether the reported experimental result can be obtained by other researchers using their re-implemented artifacts with a …
