Technology can potentially serve as a distraction and even a false feedback loop for improved care, causing an impact on the fundamental quality of patient care. Mobile technology advancement such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) charting and smartphone use in the clinical nurse setting provides both prospects and challenges that have not been widely researched. This dissertation proposal examines registered nurse survey results, …

Their work employs specific communication strategies such as descriptive narrative, allegory, two-ness, anaphora, and metaphors to address the oppressive white-centric representation of AA identity and provide a decolonial shift in U.S. Eurocentric ideology. Through a close reading and textual analysis of representative works such as, Frederick Douglass’s book, “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” (2005), …

Communication And Learning: The Bilateral Information Transmission In The Cobweb Model, Eran Guse, M. C. Sunny Wong
Communication And Learning: The Bilateral Information Transmission In The Cobweb Model, Eran Guse, M. C. Sunny Wong
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
Communication is a natural activity to gain information and exchange ideas for making proper economic decisions. The mechanism of social interaction remains inadequately understood. Previous studies have investigated the consequences of communication under a one-way information transmission mechanism from moreinformed leaders to less-informed followers. This mechanism leads to the ‘‘boomerang effect’’—a reduction in leaders’ forecasting efficiency due to the information transmission. However, communication should be interactive. This paper devises a two-stage interactive cobweb model with a generalized information diffusion process called the bi-directional information diffusion (BID) process, which allows both information transmission and feedback mechanisms. Numerical analysis and simulations show …

Multimedia Networks And Communications, Houbing Song
Publications
Sight and sound is a type of correspondence that joins distinctive substance structures like content, sound, pictures, liveliness, or video into a solitary show, rather than customary broad communications, like written word or sound chronicles. Famous instances of interactive media incorporate video web recordings, sound slideshows and animated videos. Multimedia can be recorded for playback on PCs, workstations, cell phones, and other electronic gadgets, either on request or progressively (streaming). In the early long stretches of sight and sound, the expression "rich media" was inseparable from intuitive mixed media. Over the long run. Improved degrees of intuitiveness are made conceivable …

It Is. It Isn't. It Is., Chad Kuyper
It Is. It Isn't. It Is., Chad Kuyper
Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal
This piece was written in late July 2020. Stay-at-home orders had been lifted a couple months prior in Minnesota, but both the state and the country were seeing a steep rise in COVID-19 infections. No viable vaccine was on the horizon.
I wanted to play with chronology in this piece. Spending fourteen months inside the same set of walls makes both time – and memory – slippery. Hard to wrestle into a recognizable shape. So the events of these two days are told in a chronological jumble that more closely resembles how I recall events of the last year. And …

High School Teachers' Experiences In Addressing The Challenges Of Written Expression Among Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Kevin James Hasinger
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe high school special education teachers’ experiences in teaching written expression to students with autism spectrum disorder in Parker County School District, located near the mid-eastern seaboard of the United States. At the onset of the study, written expression instruction was defined as instruction that facilitates the expression of feelings, thoughts, and ideas on paper to convey meaning to and/or persuade the reader (Flowers & Hayes, 1981). The theory guiding this study was Flower and Hayes’ (1981) cognitive process theory of writing which defined three essential elements of writing: the task …
The Importance Of Communication Skills To Independent Crop Consultants, Lindsay Overmyer
The Importance Of Communication Skills To Independent Crop Consultants, Lindsay Overmyer
Doctor of Plant Health Program: Dissertations and Student Research
Independent crop consulting companies provide services to farmers by scouting (i.e., collecting field observations of plants and pests) and developing management recommendations for individual fields. In production agriculture, independent crop consultants (ICCs) are professionals who are independent of product sales. They are knowledgeable in many disciplines including plant pathology, entomology, weed science, plant science, economics, water management, and soil science. However, ICCs must also have extensive communication skills to communicate to their audience of field scout(s), farmers, industry professionals, and government officials. The goal of this document is to examine how ICCs use their communication skills and how they can …
Visual Communication – A Designer’S Guide To Reaching Target Audiences, Timothy Lerch
Visual Communication – A Designer’S Guide To Reaching Target Audiences, Timothy Lerch
Theses
Visual communication is the cornerstone of graphic design. All graphic design projects communicate a visual message. As with all forms of communication, visual communication is a two-way street. For a message to be effective, a designer must understand how to reach their audience. Scholarly design programs focus primarily on visual cues, while marketing programs focus on in-depth audience analysis and consumer behavior. This creates a problem for designers as they complete their degree program and enter the job market, particularly if they intend to seek freelance work. This guide is innovative because it presents components of visual communication from perspectives …

The problem of human trafficking is global, affecting men and women, adults, and children, with exploitation of various forms including (but not limited to) sex work, hospitality and entertainment, labor, agriculture, soldiering, forced begging and organ removal. While it has been the focus of movies, news articles, documentaries, legislation and research, the discussion of the communication surrounding human trafficking is still in the formative stages.
