The Development And Implementation Of Units Of Nonverbal Instruction Which Increase Teachers' Nonverbal Behaviors, Malinda Garcia Jan 1978

The Development And Implementation Of Units Of Nonverbal Instruction Which Increase Teachers' Nonverbal Behaviors, Malinda Garcia

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Nonverbal communication was not considered a science until 1950, after Ray Birdwhistell conducted extensive nonverbal research. Thus, the research on nonverbal communication in the classroom is still in it's pioneer stage. The purpose of this project was to increase kindergarten teachers’ awareness of nonverbal communication and its effect upon students. This pilot study emphasized four specific nonverbal behaviors: eye contact, touch, smile and proxemics. Research has found these behaviors to be true indicators of one's psychological state at the given time. It was believed that by increasing a teacher's nonverbal behaviors he could change students' immediate responses toward school.

Language Problems And Aboriginal Education, Ed Brumby (Ed.) Jan 1977

Language Problems And Aboriginal Education, Ed Brumby (Ed.)

Research outputs pre 2011

Effective communication must be an essential feature of any teaching/ .learning situation and it follows that considerable difficulties arise when teacher and learner speak different and mutually unintelligible languages or dialects. This, unfortunately, is the situation in which many, if not most, Aboriginal children and their teachers throughout Australia find themselves. This classroom situation reflects, of course, the difficulties and frustrations experienced on a wider scale by many Aboriginal parents and Aboriginal communities, and those outsiders who work with them. The problem is compounded further by the fact that few teachers or others who work in Aboriginal areas are given …

A Digital Signal Processing System Developed For The Optimal Use Of High Density Magnetic Storage Media, Victor Hernandez Jan 1977

A Digital Signal Processing System Developed For The Optimal Use Of High Density Magnetic Storage Media, Victor Hernandez

Theses

High density data recording has traditionally been an essential factor in the development of communication and transmission systems. However, recently more sophisticated applications, including video recording, have necessitated refinements of this technology. This study concentrates on the signal processing techniques used to inhance the packing density of stored data. A comparison of the spectral mapping characteristics of different codes illustrates that the need for equalization can be eliminated and that significant bandwidth reduction can be achieved. Secondly, consideration is given to the deleterious effects of flutter, its associated effects on high density data recording, and the constraints imposed on the …

The Photonovel: A Tool For Development, Daniel Weaks Sep 1976

The Photonovel: A Tool For Development, Daniel Weaks

Other Documents

"An essential factor involved in the development of appropriate solutions is their accessibility to the desired audience. One of the approaches which has proven to be an effective tool in opening up new channels of communication is the photonovel. The photonovel has permitted access where other media have failed; it has filled in the gaps where more traditional, and often more expensive media have introduced ideas but without great and lasting impact. It is more important as a means of information dissemination and as a catalyst for audience participation.

The Photonovel: A Tool for Development is an important addition to …

Symbol And Artifact: Jungian Dynamics At Mcluhan's Technological Interface, Mike Amana Glick Jan 1976

Symbol And Artifact: Jungian Dynamics At Mcluhan's Technological Interface, Mike Amana Glick

Dissertations and Theses

Our goal was to establish some form of interpretation between the analytical work of Carl Jung in depth psychology and the views of Marshall McLuhan regarding the impact of media. It was hoped that such a correlation of contrasting viewpoints would yield additional insight in the study of mass reactions to media.

In accomplishing this purpose a “universe” based upon analytical psychology was juxtaposed with an expressly “McLuhanesque” analysis of media and technological effects. After establishing correlations between the major dynamics of the two systems, several functional conclusions were reached. These are: (1) that media have an inescapable influence, (2) …
