Communication And Socialization Skills At Ages 2 And 3 In "Late-Talking" Young Children, Rhea Paul, Shawn S. Looney, Pamela S. Dahm Aug 1991

Communication And Socialization Skills At Ages 2 And 3 In "Late-Talking" Young Children, Rhea Paul, Shawn S. Looney, Pamela S. Dahm

Communication Disorders Faculty Publications

Twenty-one apparently normal children between 18 and 34 months of age with slow expressive language acquisition were compared to a group of normally speaking children matched for age, SES, and sex ratio, on the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (Sparrow, Balla, & Cicchetti, 1984). The late talkers (LTs) scored significantly lower not only in expressive communication, but also in receptive communication and socialization. A follow-up study of the same subjects, seen at age 3, showed nearly half the 3-year-olds with a history of LT remained delayed in expressive communication and socialization, while one third remained behind in receptive language. The data …

Making Sense Of Billboard Law: Justifying Prohibitions And Exemptions, R. Douglass Bond Aug 1990

Making Sense Of Billboard Law: Justifying Prohibitions And Exemptions, R. Douglass Bond

Michigan Law Review

Part I of this Note surveys the trends in the aesthetic regulation of billboards, culminating in the Supreme Court of California's decision in Metromedia, Inc. v. City of San Diego, and the Supreme Court's review of that decision. Part II analyzes the five Metromedia opinions in order to present properly the contemporary debate over billboard law. It inquires whether a sign prohibition should hinge on the commercial or noncommercial status of the targeted signs. Part III indicates how ambiguities in the Metromedia plurality opinion have produced the conflict in lower courts between the commercial/noncommercial distinction and the onsite/ off …

Determining The Computer Literacy Levels Of Vocational Teachers In Southern Nevada And Developing A Computer In-Service Program For Vocational Teachers, James L. Pomeroy Jun 1990

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

Clark County Community College Computer Graphics Department program director, was approached by Southern Nevada community college faculty members, secondary vocation.al/technical teachers. and local vocational leadership and asked to develop a computer literacy program for the state's vocational teachers. The most optimistic computer literacy studies conducted nation-wide in the last five years indicated that at least fifty percent of teachers in all disciplines lacked computer literacy. With the need for a program established by prior studies and local requests, this study was designed to determine the extend of need prior to the college committing resources for program implementation.

The study methodology …

Variables Affecting Attendance At And Radio Listenership To Minor League Baseball Games, David C. Ogden May 1990

Variables Affecting Attendance At And Radio Listenership To Minor League Baseball Games, David C. Ogden

Student Work

Variables, including age, sex, group accompaniment, extracurricular activities and "likes" and "dislikes" about experiences at games, were investigated for their relationship to attendance at Omaha Royals games and to listenership to Royals on radio. The results of a survey of spectators (N=333) at 11 Royals games show a difference in frequency of attendance among age groups and a difference in frequency of listenership between the sexes. Those over age 55 appear to attend games more often (p<.01) and female listeners tune in Royals games more frequently than males who listen to Omaha Royals radio (p<.05). Such findings support the contentions of Lee and Zeiss (1980) that age does make a difference in the amount of sports consumption, and that females may adopt sports consumer roles as readily as males. The study also indicates baseball's importance as a forum for socialization among family members and as a mechanism for exploring communication components of the sports subculture (Donnelly, 1972) and their marketing implications.
