Achieving processor cooperation in the presence of faults is a major problem in distributed systems. Popular paradigms such as Byzantine agreement have been studied principally in the context of a complete network. Indeed, Dolev [J. Algorithms, 3 (1982), pp. 14–30] and Hadzilacos [Issues of Fault Tolerance in Concurrent Computations, Ph.D. thesis, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, 1984] have shown that Ω(t) connectivity is necessary if the requirement is that all nonfaulty processors decide unanimously, where t is the number of faults to be tolerated. We believe that in forseeable technologies the number of faults will grow with the size of the …

Stuttering: A Psychological Phenomenon / Katherine Ho Gaik Choo, Gaik Choo Katherine Ho
Pre-2000 Student Works
Communication Between Physicians And Physical Therapists, Janet Bower Hulme, Betsy Wackernagel Bach, John W. Lewis
Communication Between Physicians And Physical Therapists, Janet Bower Hulme, Betsy Wackernagel Bach, John W. Lewis
Communication Studies Faculty Publications
The purposes of this study were 1) to identify therapists' and physicians' attitudes and opinions about the physician-physical therapist communication dyad, 2) to identify potential areas for improvement in this communication process, and 3) to provide physical therapists and physical therapy students with basic guidelines for optimal communications. Ten physical therapists and 8 physicians participated in individual interviews that were taped and subsequently transcribed. The transcriptions were compiled and analyzed by an interpersonal communication expert (B.W.B.) for trends and themes. Findings of the study include 1) physical therapists want increased accessibility to and communication with physicians and 2) physicians want …
Television And Other Frills : Public Demands Of Broadcast Services In The Satellite Age, Lelia Green
Television And Other Frills : Public Demands Of Broadcast Services In The Satellite Age, Lelia Green
Research outputs pre 2011
This monograph is the culmination of two years research into public demands of broadcast services in Western Australia. Based on 1,145 completed questionnaires, the study centres upon people in seven communities drawn from the service areas of remote, regional and metropolitan broadcasters. It compares and contrasts the different expectations that these groups of have of broadcast media.
People living in isolation within the remote commercial television service area have one major broadcasting demand: a clear, reliable radio service. Shortwave broadcasts are notoriously susceptible to interference and, on some occasions, are effectively non-existent. Recommendations are made for the of direct radio …

An Exploratory Study Of The Relationship Between Communication Apprehension And Personal Construct Theory In The Context Of A Public Speaking Fundamentals Course, Linda Wilkins
Student Work
Many psychologists, philosophers, and educators agree that individual self-concepts develop, in large part, through perceptions gained from communicative transactions. If the nature of the transaction changes, perceptions can change, and self-concept can be altered. Self-concept combines with many influences including cultural heritage, environment, and past experiences to form the basis of an individual’s unique communicative and behavior patterns.
A Module To Educate Elementary School Staff On How To Implement The Peace Studies Curriculum In Their Buildings, Clement L. Magner
A Module To Educate Elementary School Staff On How To Implement The Peace Studies Curriculum In Their Buildings, Clement L. Magner
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The Milwaukee Board of School Directors mandated that a Peace Studies Curriculum be implemented in all grades of all Milwaukee public elementary schools. The purpose of the Peace Studies Curriculum was to teach elementary students how to understand conflict and how to respond to conflicts in their lives in a non- violent manner.
An informal survey revealed that the elementary teachers were not implementing the Peace Studies Curriculum in their classrooms because they did not feel adequately prepared to do so. Incidents of acting out and violent behavior continued to increase.
There was a need to educate the elementary teachers …
