Reply Stop To Stop, Molly A. M. Garrett
Reply Stop To Stop, Molly A. M. Garrett
Theses and Dissertations
Over the course of 8 years working in progressive political strategy, 2015–2023, I became increasingly critical of the systems, formulas and tools we were using to communicate with voters. Reply STOP to Stop is documentation of my time at graduate school, of wrestling with ideas of political design, language, communication and distribution. I analyzed my past work — all the texts, emails, social media posts, print ads, web banners, videos and other miscellaneous scripted content — and wondered if we would all be better off without it. Would elections be fairer, would there be less fake news, more community building? …

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2025
Our project focused on service-learning through weekly reading sessions at UCF’s Creative School for Children. During our time we visited three age groups: toddlers, pre-k 1, and pre-k 2. We took turns reading aloud, encouraged participation, and built a love for storytelling among young learners. Each week, we selected books from the UCF CMC library and devoted 30 minutes to each class. Over time, we observed growth in the children’s attention span, enthusiasm, and social skills. During one combined session, both pre-k classes eagerly listened to ten books for over an hour and still wanted more reading time. Many students …

Employing a qualitative research design, the study involved ten women in senior PR positions, five from each country, through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis identified six key themes: institutional barriers and gendered expectations; double standards in leadership communication; the influence of stereotypes; mentorship and support; intra-gender competition; and leadership agency and optimism. Guided by Social Role Theory, Glass Ceiling Theory, Feminist Standpoint Theory, and Transformational Leadership …
Love At First Words: A Communication Competency Approach To Romantic Relationship Initiation, Grace E. Wiegand
Love At First Words: A Communication Competency Approach To Romantic Relationship Initiation, Grace E. Wiegand
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
Initial interactions are essential to romantic relationship formation, and both parties must desire a second interaction after an initial encounter for the relationship to advance. Many studies have explored the communication styles and tactics that are effective in a person desiring a second interaction from a dating initiation scenario. However, existing research has yet to explain why some communication strategies do or do not result in second interactions. The current study seeks to examine this phenomenon further, testing the extent to which perceived partner communication competence influences a person to want to see another again after an initial interaction. In …

Effective communication is key to building rapport and trust, which are essential for improving patient outcomes. However, nursing students may experience anxiety when interacting with pediatric patients due to limited training in communication techniques. Simulation offers a valuable opportunity for students to practice and refine their skills in a risk-free environment, allowing them to build confidence and competence. An integrative literature review was conducted, utilizing three databases and PRISMA guidelines (Page et al., 2021) to gather relevant studies for …

The aim of this exploratory study is to examine how police officers perceive the impact of body-worn cameras (BWCs) on their use of discretion when communicating with members of the public. In this context, “discretion” refers to an officer’s authority to make independent judgments while enforcing the law; deciding whether to issue a warning, make an arrest, or resolve an incident informally when legality permits. To understand officers’ opinions, a cross-sectional, quantitative online survey was distributed to various police departments and sheriff’s offices in upstate New York. Participants completed a series of Likert-style survey items addressing their general views on …

Personalizing Heat Information For Adults Over 65, Bruce C. Pollock Jr
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
In the lead-up to extreme heat events, federal agencies, such as the National Weather Service (NWS), issue products and messages that advise people as to expected impacts, duration, and protective actions of the hazard. Within social media graphics, words such as “elderly” are used but are not defined by age. This can complicate personalization of risk to a hazard, such as extreme heat. I conducted focus groups across the United States and found that the term "elderly” was not understood among the general population. Additionally, I found that definitions of aging were tied to concepts such as mobility, resource access, …

By improving her soft skills, she has built trusting relationships with patients, enhanced her time management, and strengthened her empathy, which she believes will benefit her throughout her career.
Ethics: Informed Consent, Adel Rizkalla Dds
Ethics: Informed Consent, Adel Rizkalla Dds
Virginia Dental Journal
Informed consent in dental practice involves clear communication between dentists and patients about treatment risks, benefits, costs, and outcomes. It is rooted in the patient's right to self-determination and requires the dentist to present information objectively and holistically. Ethical practice demands that treatment recommendations should not be influenced by financial pressures or personal gain but should focus on the patient's best interests. Effective informed consent enhances the patient-clinician relationship and supports ethical decision-making in dental care.

Journal of Research on the College President
The landscape of leadership in higher education is becoming increasingly complex (Gagliardi et al., 2017; Jaschik & Lederman, 2016; Wesley et al., 2021). Significant instances of racial violence and geopolitical unrest have instigated conversations and ongoing movements towards greater social justice in American society and on university campuses. With these movements, higher education leaders at faith-based institutions have been called on to communicate and lead within a social justice context, through the act of sensegiving. This qualitative study investigated the perspectives and roles of presidential leaders who have provided communication regarding social justice topics. The purpose of the study was …
