Staff and provider engagement leads to better quality and experience of care and less turnover and burnout. In this program, we describe an approach to better understand underlying factors that lead to low staff and provider engagement and address such factors by creating actionable plans that drive improved engagement measures. Focus groups were conducted with staff, advance practice providers, and faculty to better understand low scored areas in an annual third-party engagement survey. Focus group results were analyzed, and thematic action plans were then developed by a leadership team. These plans and the status of addressing the identified issues were …

A Dual-Band Circularly Polarized Printed Antenna For Deep Space Cubesat Communication, Muhammad Mubasshir Hossain, Mohammad Qudrat-E-Maula, Saeed I. Latif, Edmund Spencer
Small Satellite Conference
This paper presents the design of a dual-band printed planar antenna for deep space CubeSat communications. The antenna system will be used with a radio for duplex operation in a CubeSat, which can be used for a lunar mission or any deep space mission. While a high-gain CubeSat planar antenna/array is always desired for a deep space mission, high-performance ground stations are also required for robust communication links. For such a mission, the X-band is the appropriate frequency for the downlink communication, which is very challenging in the case of deep space communication compared to the uplink communication. At this frequency, …

New, innovative CubeSat mission concepts demand modern capabilities such as artificial intelligence and autonomy, constellation coordination, fault mitigation, and robotic servicing – all of which require vastly more processing resources than legacy systems are capable of providing. Enabling these domains within a scalable, configurable processing architecture is advantageous because it also allows for the flexibility to address varying mission roles, such as a command and data-handling system, a high-performance application processor extension, a guidance and navigation solution, or an instrument/sensor interface. This paper describes the NASA SpaceCube Intelligent Multi-Purpose System (IMPS), which allows mission developers to mix-and-match 1U (10 cm …

A Novel Rf Architecture For Simultaneous Communication, Navigation, And Remote Sensing With Software-Defined Radio, Nicholas Franconi, Sebastian Sabogal, Alan George, Munther Hassouneh, Jason Mitchell, Christopher Wilson
Small Satellite Conference
The rapid growth of SmallSat and CubeSat missions at NASA has necessitated a re-evaluation of communication and remote-sensing architectures. Novel designs for CubeSat-sized single-board computers can now include larger Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and faster System-on-Chip (SoCs) devices. These components substantially improve onboard processing capabilities so that varying subsystems no longer require an independent processor. By replacing individual Radio Frequency (RF) systems with a single software-defined radio (SDR) and processor, mission designers have greater control over reliability, performance, and efficiency. The presented architecture combines individual processing systems into a single design and establishes a modular SDR architecture capable of both …

Breaking Down Barriers In Multigenerational Nursing, Janet Gardner
Breaking Down Barriers In Multigenerational Nursing, Janet Gardner
Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing
Nurses from five generations consistently represent the current workforce. The different characteristics of a multigenerational nursing workforce can impact communication and the development of respect. According to the Randstad Workmonitor survey, one of the most common challenges among multiple generations is communication. In a small rural hospital in the southeastern United States, nurses are experiencing a loss of vital information during patient handoffs and transitions, which complicates the existing issues of poor retention rates and incivility. Additionally, there is a lack of professional respect regarding nursing knowledge and clinical judgment among the workforce.

The Return Of Great-Power Competition—Cold War Lessons About Strategic Antisubmarine Warfare And Defense Of Sea Lines Of Communication, Bradford Dismukes
Naval War College Review
American Cold War planning experienced important failures in strategic intelligence and in the way planners used that intelligence. These shortcomings were overcome through massive material investment, technological advantage, and good fortune, but in the twenty-first-century era of great-power competition the Navy cannot count on these advantages. More-careful and better-integrated intelligence-planning processes would improve our chances of success greatly.

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Dissent, the public expression of a minority perspective, is valuable to organizations due to its connections with improving decision-making processes within teams. The current study sought to integrate what is known about diversity in thought and diversity in people and how this influences the dissent process. Specifically, I examined if positive perceptions of dissenters (i.e., worthy of respect or courageous) differ based on the race of the dissenter. Second, I examined if stories of successful articulated dissent influence subsequent willingness to dissent. In developing a scenario to manipulate dissent outcomes ranging from negative outcomes (i.e., hostility) to positive outcomes (i.e., …

Parental Communication Patterns And The Impact On Young Children, Janice Ringstaff
Parental Communication Patterns And The Impact On Young Children, Janice Ringstaff
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. Such messages may impact an individual’s overall functioning across the lifespan. Parents are usually the first source of information exchange for children. The Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP), originally published in 1976, is an education program that teaches positive parenting and effective communication strategies. STEP encourages parents to embrace concepts of mutual respect and equality while creating opportunities for parents to meet the demands of raising children. There is limited data assessing parental change in communication patterns among parents of young school-aged children following systematic training. Twelve parents with children …
