Unit-Based Onboarding Program For New Graduates On A Medical-Surgical Unit, Racquel A. Brewster
Unit-Based Onboarding Program For New Graduates On A Medical-Surgical Unit, Racquel A. Brewster
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nurse turnover is prevalent among new graduate nurses. Many new graduate nurses feel unsupported by their peers, lack self-confidence, or feel overburdened due to the workload assigned to them. New graduate nurses with support systems are more likely to stay with an organization. Research suggests the creation of a supportive environment for new graduate nurses to help increase nurse retention in this demographic. A unit-based transition onboarding program was launched to create a supportive environment to help retain new graduate nurses on a medical-surgical unit. New graduate nurses with at least 1 to 3 years of experience completed a Likert-type …

Implementing evidence-based interventions remains slow in federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). The purpose of this study is to qualitatively examine the R = MC2 (Readiness = motivation × innovation specific capacity × general capacity) heuristic subcomponents in the context of implementing general and colorectal cancer screening (CRCS)-related practice changes in FQHCs. We conducted 17 interviews with FQHC employees to examine (1) experiences with successful or unsuccessful practice change efforts, (2) using approaches to promote CRCS, and (3) opinions about R = MC2 subcomponents. We conducted a rapid qualitative analysis to examine the frequency, depth, and spontaneity of subcomponents. Priority, compatibility, …
Design Of Ultra Dense Wdm Optical Communication System To Reduce Signal Impairments Using Dcf And Repeater Techniques, Dina S. Akram, Haydar M.
Design Of Ultra Dense Wdm Optical Communication System To Reduce Signal Impairments Using Dcf And Repeater Techniques, Dina S. Akram, Haydar M.
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
Linear and non-linear impairments are the major problems that affected the dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system performance. In this simulation designs, two different compensation techniques have been proposed to eliminate signal impairments. The repeater technique was proposed to reduce non-linear effects like four-wave mixing (FWM) which cause transfer power from DWDM channels to another new channels. The dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) technique was used to reduce dispersion effects which cause signal pulse broadening over long transmission distances. Also, three different modulation formats and four frequency separations were used to determine which modulation scheme is more compatible with the compensation …

The Internet of things (IoT) is one of those emerging technologies, which are going to rule the world in the next few decades. The IoT environment not only enables Human to Machine interaction but also fosters Machine to Machine connectivity. Numerous IoT devices have poor security and insufficient computing power, making them prime targets for hackers. The IoT environment uses lightweight cryptographic techniques to address security requirements. Another security method for IoT devices is steganography. In the contemporary Internet era, the ability to secure private information is crucial, and steganography offers this capability. Due to its great ability to conceal …

When Cool Has Consequences: The Unintended Effects Of Facebook’S Most Popular Features, S. O. Jeffcoat
Proceedings of the New York State Communication Association
The aim of this work is not only to add to the literature analyzing the past and current impact that Facebook has on the more than 2.2 billion global users of the application (Wagner & Swisher, 2017), but also to synthesize the features of Facebook and offer reasonable solutions for reducing the occurrence of the unintended effects of the features of Facebook. Three questions are to be kept in mind: “What are the features of Facebook?”, “What have been observed as unintended effects of the features of Facebook?” and “What viable solutions exist in mitigating the unintended effects of the …
Can Artificial Intelligence, Specifically Large Language Models (Llms), Enhance Human Emotional Intelligence Responses In A Small Team Work Environment?, Jason Evans
AI Assignment Library
Compare real-world human responses to potential conflict situations to an artificial intelligence response. Several articles have suggested that LLMs may actually be more successful at modeling proper human emotional responses than factual based responses. The objective of this assignment is for students to discover if and how a LLM can serve as a model for proper responses to minimize conflict and increase team effectiveness. This specific assignment was designed for aviation students, but can be adapted for any small team working environment.

The Student Veteran Instructional Communication Training (Svic): An Analysis Of Student Veteran Instructional Needs And Corresponding Instructional Behaviors, Trevor Kauer, Marian Houser
Journal of Communication Pedagogy
Student veteran’s (SV) transition into academic life is challenging, and faculty/staff are uniquely positioned to support this change. Research calls for academic faculty/staff training to support SVs’ and aid in their retention and academic success. Framed by Rhetorical and Relational Goal Theory (RRGT; Mottet et al., 2006), qualitative data identified SVs’ instructional communication needs and produced a faculty/staff training program. Twenty-three SVs were interviewed about their instructional communication needs, namely, a need for: Structure, Integration, and Awareness. These needs were translated into instructor communication behaviors, and a SV instructional communication training (SVIC) was created to (a) promote organization, (b) facilitate …

The design, development, implementation, use, and evaluation of high-quality, patient-centered clinical decision support (PC CDS) is necessary if we are to achieve the quintuple aim in healthcare. We developed a PC CDS lifecycle framework to promote a common understanding and language for communication among researchers, patients, clinicians, and policymakers. The framework puts the patient, and/or their caregiver at the center and illustrates how they are involved in all the following stages: Computable Clinical Knowledge, Patient-specific Inference, Information Delivery, Clinical Decision, Patient Behaviors, Health Outcomes, Aggregate Data, and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) Evidence. Using this idealized framework reminds key stakeholders that …
Deaf Communication Awareness, Emily Grace Cruz Amponin
Deaf Communication Awareness, Emily Grace Cruz Amponin
Theses
Whenever a Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing person or a group of deaf people converse with people who aren’t deaf, they know various communication approaches such as writing notes on paper or phones, basic gestures, talking clearly, or lip reading if they grew up with an oral method. A Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing person may have hearing devices: hearing aids or cochlear implants, or they have none of these hearing devices. The Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people are trying and willing to communicate with their relatives, employees, customers, classmates, or instructors. However, people do not look at a Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing person or a …
A Framework For Creating Virtual Reality Models For More Effective Coastal Flood Risk Communication, Tina Korani, Alexandrea Martinez
A Framework For Creating Virtual Reality Models For More Effective Coastal Flood Risk Communication, Tina Korani, Alexandrea Martinez
CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change
Coastal cities are exposed to increasing risks of flooding from sea-level rise. Climate change is expected to double the frequency of coastal flooding within the next decade, and some areas could experience floods of a magnitude 100 times higher than currently (Vitousek et al., 2017). People living in at-risk areas often ignore the impact of climate change on flood intensity and frequency. Immersive visual storytelling techniques proved promising and powerful tools to engage with and raise awareness of flood hazards. Here, we are introducing a framework to use Virtual Reality (VR) to reach better people living in coastal cities and …

Behavioral Response To Conspecific Sounds In Loricariid Catfishes (Pterygoplichtys Pardalis And Otocinclus Vittatus), Hephzibah Obafunmiso
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Sound production is a means of communication among many fish species. In fishes, sound is produced through various mechanisms, but in the family Loricariidae, known as armored suckermouth catfishes, sound is produced primarily through pectoral fin spine stridulation. Previous experiments have described the sounds produced and shown the mechanism of sound production in two species of loricariid catfishes, Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps and Otocinclus affinis, but the functional significance of loricariid sounds is still unknown. To address this question, I examined the behavioral responses of Pterygoplichthys pardalis and Otocinclus vittatus to conspecific calls. Individual fish (N=10 for P. pardalis) or groups …
Childhood Maltreatment And Romantic Relationship Functioning During Pregnancy: Women’S Narrative Coherence About Partners And Couples’ Conflict Communication And Recovery, Laura M. River
