McKenna Johnston and Leo Williams met over Zoom on February 23rd, 2021. At the time of the interview, New Mexico’s Bernalillo County had advanced to the Yellow COVID tier. It had been nearly a year since the COVID-19 pandemic had shifted the world to increasingly rely on virtual platforms. Since March 13th, 2020, McKenna had been participating in classes at the University of New Mexico over Zoom. In this interview, she speaks to her experience navigating the past year through virtual platforms.

BACKGROUND: On March 17, 2020 an expert ASRM task force recommended the temporary suspension of new, non-urgent fertility treatments during an ongoing world-wide pandemic of Covid-19. We surveyed at the time of resumption of fertility care the psychological experience and coping strategies of patients pausing their care due to Covid-19 and examined which factors were associated and predictive of resilience, anxiety, stress and hopefulness.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to sudden extreme changes in lifestyle, potentially causing adverse changes in physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and dietary habits. It is important to investigate how college students are being impacted by the quarantine periods and campus closures. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of COVID-19 quarantine on frequency of physical activity, frequency of food consumption and food insecurity among college students. Cases are aggregated by the date of onset of COVID-19 symptoms, if known, otherwise by laboratory specimen date if known, otherwise by case referral date. Deaths are aggregated by the date of death if known, otherwise by the last date of a change to the case status.

Objectives: The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly challenged the capacity of long-term care (LTC) homes in Canada, resulting in new, pressing priorities for leaders and health care providers (HCPs) in the care and safety of LTC residents. This study aimed to determine whether Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Care of the Elderly Long-Term Care (COE-LTC): COVID-19, a virtual education program, was effective at delivering just-in-time learning and best practices to support LTC teams and residents during the pandemic. BackgroundMitochondrial DNA (MT-DNA) are intrinsically inflammatory nucleic acids released by damaged solid organs. Whether circulating cell-free MT-DNA quantitation could be used to predict the risk of poor COVID-19 outcomes remains undetermined.MethodsWe measured circulating MT-DNA levels in prospectively collected, cell-free plasma samples from 97 subjects with COVID-19 at hospital presentation. Our primary outcome was mortality. Intensive care unit (ICU) admission, intubation, vasopressor, and renal replacement therapy requirements were secondary outcomes. Multivariate regression analysis determined whether MT-DNA levels were independent of other reported COVID-19 risk factors.
