The Family-Directed Structural Assessment Tool: An Approach To Assisting Families Impacted By Covid-19, Tara Mclendon

Journal of Family Strengths

The COVID-19 pandemic jeopardizes many levels of society. The family unit, a foundation of societal structure and function, is particularly vulnerable to the unpredictability of this current crisis. The Family-Directed Structural Assessment Tool (FDSAT) offers a means by which service providers and families can reinforce structure within and around the family unit. This potentially offers a level of predictability and sense of safety during an extraordinarily challenging time. A brief history of the FDSAT is addressed, followed by an overview of tenets specific to the assessment tool. An in-depth case study is provided. This example demonstrates the use of FDSAT …

We reviewed the electronic medical records (EMR) of patients hospitalized during the peak of the pandemic, March 1st through March 31st, to document the type and frequency of neurological problems seen in patients with COVID-19 at presentation to the emergency room. Secondary aims were to determine: 1) the frequency of neurological complaints during the hospital stay; 2) whether the presence of any neurological complaint at presentation or any of the individual types of neurological complaints at admission predicted three separate outcomes: death, length of hospital stay, or the need for intubation; and 3) if the presence of any neurological complaint …

Department of Medicine

There is limited evidence on the efficacy of awake prone positioning (PP) in non-ventilated patients with COVID-19 who have hypoxemia. We, therefore, aim to describe our experience with the use of early proning in awake, non-intubated patients with confirmed COVID-19. In our retrospective observational study, 23 patients with confirmed positive PCR test results for Severe Acute respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) and hypoxemia that required oxygen therapy with or without non-invasive ventilation were treated with PP. Patients were classified into mild, moderate and severe COVID-19 disease. There were no targeted number of hours for proning per day and patients were kept …

The convergence of the health, racial, and economic crises resulting from COVID-19 has exposed long-standing inequities among New York State’s Black communities. The recent, brutal and senseless killings of Black men and women (e.g., George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, among an exceedingly long list of names) have ignited growing national public protests and increasing agreement about the existence of deep-seated racial injustice within systems and institutions and how it has been compounded over time. Taken together, the COVID-19 pandemic and the pandemic of senseless killings of Black people are providing a magnified reflection of the nation’s historic …

Healthcare providers were rapidly forced to modify the way they practiced medicine during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Many providers transitioned from seeing their patients in person to virtually using telemedicine platforms with limited training and experience using this medium. In pediatric rheumatology, this was further complicated as musculoskeletal exams typically require hands-on assessment of patients. The objective of this study was to examine the adoption of telemedicine into pediatric rheumatology practices, to assess its benefits and challenges, and to gather opinions on its continued use. A survey was sent to the lead representatives of each Pediatric Rheumatology Care …

Infidelity In A Fast Paced Society, Gabriel Kua, Ralphael Joseph, Shaun Ng, Jozia Seet

Introduction to Research Methods RSCH 202

Abstract

There are many possible factors that cause individuals to commit infidelity in modern society. Since the studies that have measured the significance of the factors causing the act of infidelity are scarce, our study aims to investigate the potential causes of infidelity and measure the significance of the causes. Through our research, we have identified that COVID-19, social networking platforms, social status and income level, access to pornography, ethnicity, marital status, and sexual orientation are possible factors of infidelity acts. We have created an anonymous survey to investigate the causes, which will be measured by regression analysis. We plan …
